Newport Ri 2013 Squid Season

Just jump in with the rest of us! Any dock or pier in the bay usually works. Its hard to screw up when they start attacking those jigs

Just got back from GI. Fished from 8:30-10. Only the herring were checking out my jigs. Lots of jellyfish around too.

[/quote]the bridge is your best bet. In my past experiences the whole shoulder to shoulder thing is a bit exaggerated. Sure it gets a bit crowded in the early evening but if you go later its fine. Parking is the only real issue, as its a bit limited. Don't worry about getting tangled either. It's not like fishing on a party boat. Your line is only 3 or 4 oz at most and it's not like squid are that big and will be swimming away with your bait wrapping around other guys lines. Good luck to you!!

Fort adams can be a good spot if you don't want to fish GI and there is plenty of parking. IF you don't want too pay the tolls there is always Jamestown

Unless a kraken gets me I'll be out there tonight. I really don't expect to catch any but with one foot seas and mild winds and some good friends how can it be bad? My buddy just call me about squid. He owned fish market and he told me that wholesaler starting to selling locally caught squid!

Yup! I agree but RI DEM changed regulation as follow.



General Provisions

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to fish or spearfish recreationally for finfish or squid in the marine waters of Rhode Island without a valid and current recreational saltwater fishing license.

(<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> For the purpose of this section, an individual will be considered to be fishing or spearfishing recreationally if they are engaged in the process of angling via the use of any type of hook and line, or spearfishing via the use of any type of spear or powerhead, or if they possess equipment used for angling or spearfishing and are in possession of finfish or squid.

© A valid and current recreational saltwater fishing license may include: a RI recreational saltwater fishing license, a recreational saltwater fishing license from a reciprocal state, or a national saltwater angler registration.

(d) Reciprocal states are listed at saltwater.ri.gov.

(e) Anglers and spearfishers must be in possession of, or within close

proximity to, their license at all times while engaged in angling or spearfishing. The term close proximity shall be construed to mean aboard a vessel, on which or from which an individual is angling or spearfishing; or, for shore-based anglers, or spearfishers, within a nearby car or other location that is within walking distance from the point of exit from the water.



As you can see it. It's illigal without license.

I know it's total BS but RI government want to make some money, some how

Anybody going to g.i. tonight. went to little compton yesterday caught nothing. I seen a guy with a half a bucket he got with a throwing net so they are around. there just not biting. they have no intrest in the jigs wright now.so if anyones going tonight let me know maybe i'll take a ride down to gi..

I'm at the JT now. No squid yet but environmental police stop by checking my fishing license. He told me that squid fishing need to get a license.

I do have license so no treble for me XD

Fished off green hill beach to the number 2 can.at nebraska shoals tonight. No fluke. No squid. No moon. No Kracken.



It was a beautiful/still night on the water, just no tugs on the line. Pretty eerie out there with so few boats around.



Water still only 48 and change. There was some bait on the sounder, just not a lot. All we saw were a few jellyfish.



It should be a quiet night on the francis fleet on Friday...... But I'll try again soon.
