Hey friends. What happened to these forums, seems quiet.
Starting a thread for NY and Long Island squid fishing. Waters starting to warm up, around mid 40's the other day. Has anyone been out yet? Hoping to catch the spring run this year, hoping it hasn't started yet. Might try this weekend out on the North Fork.

They catch squid in Greenport and some other places on Long Island. Google is your friend, look it up and you will see some videos and other info on Long Island squidding. Also, if you are a facebook member (I am not) there is info on NY squidding there. There are other places on the north shore that people catch them from and I hear they sometimes catch them from the fishing pier in Captree. I usually go to the Vineyard for squid and bass and have not tried the Long Island spots but I know a guy who has done well on Long Island (he lives there).

You're most welcome! I know squid are caught in NJ but I don't know where. I tried Point Pleasant once with no luck and a local tackle shop said they knew nothing about squid. Forty years ago I used to make some pretty efficient squid jigs and I gave some to a kid whose family was going to the Jersey shore on vacation and he did catch a bunch to the local's surprise. Sadly I do not know where that was. I bet if people tried different places in NJ they would find some spots where they could catch squid from docks and piers. I don't think I could handle Goat Island Bridge and the crowds that appear there but I do understand why folks go there for the squid. The noise of small generators would make me crazy too, I like peace and quiet while squidding.
