Best squid jig colour

i'd say pink first then green

but it really depends on conditions

I tried to create sum different color schemes and had success with a darker green jig. Almost like an army green/ khaki color. We just used house paint on an existing dodgy old jig. So far its catching the squid.



I also tried to make a jig look like a red spot prawn, using nailpolish...and a crimson red, nailpolish again...and the second has caught some squid. Not too sure bout it though since someone else caught more on a pale/grey jig right next to me.

Oh just an up date I have found a silver Jig that seems to do realy well. Well my girlfriend has out done me with it three nights in a row in fact I havn't caught one yet and she has caught heeps.

Silver is interesting, I have also recently seen jigs with oversized eyes, it would be interesting to do a comparison to see if it adds anything.



Also I wonder if anyone knows why pink is such a winner with the squid? surely colours are not the same in the water? I would have thought orange would be the winning colour, given that prawns are roughly orange and not pink. Also I have heard that red is the first colour to disappear in the water, so if this theory is followed, pink should be the next closest colour to go.



Maybe it is not the colour but the action of the jig?....

Recently found a new Yamashita 1.8 and it is Killing the others Outfished my mate 10 to zip the last time we squidded,and he was using his best jig.......he's pleading with me to tell him where I got it .Oh and by the way it's YELLOW!

I think I have the same jig, it is brown and gold. I call it the 'coke' jig. Yer right it does slay them I drifted with it and a pink yamashita and the yamashita caught one and the 'coke' jig got three I think.

Yeah Mike, that coke colour is a killer <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> I heard from a guy at a tackle shop that this particular colour of hayabusa jig has been discontinued, so do your best not to lose it!



Those Yamashita 1.8s are pretty good hey! I wish they made them with 2 sets of hooks though.

Pink and orange are great at night. Some places I've been, pink outfishes orange and vice versa. During the day, I have had better results with more natural colours. I say more, because one I like is Yamashita's blue with a yellow tail. I got a nice one on Sunday morning with an olive and orange jig.

   



Over here, people also pay alot of attention to the base colour. So far, marble works better than other bases with orange or pink cloths. Come to think of it, I think I prefer marble over any other base. That said, the olive/orange has a gold base <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



Recently, Yamashita has released some truely natural coloured jigs, including shrimp, jack, sardine and a couple of other local fish. [url="http://www.yamaria.co.jp/yamashita/newitem/200703_eoqnc.htm"]Natural colour page[/url]

I caught more cuttlefishs than squids on green colour jigs. Not sure if the cuttles have a special preference for green or it was just coincidence. pink and orange landed most of my squids.

In Greece were I'm fishing they say that it depends on the moon... If the moon is visible we use the light coloured jigs (the jig glows all around) or else we use the darker coloured jigs (the phosphorus is only in the beggining and the end of the jig)... What do you say about it? Thanx!

O yea! hi, im have just now fishing some big squid! with red and blue squid jigs!

Personally, and as a whole (including day and nights, all kinds of weather and water conditions), my favourite colours rank in this way: Orange, Green, Pink, Blue, and others.

Recently, green outranks all other colours in the Sai Kung Area.

I alway's seem to find myself working a green 3.5 most of the time.

Pink my next choice, then brown/gold.

Under the float I find a larger multi-colour goes well.



Bait ; mullet,whiting and gar in that order under a float.

Those "natural colour" jigs are great.I am now the proud owner of the yellowtail(AJK),hardyhead(KNH),&pilchard(MIH) jigs ,wwould love to get the brown tiger(EBH) too!

In Rhode Island, pink is the first color choice of Newport's squid whether day or night. Green seems to work well if your out of pink. I've also used white during the day to get some hits and misses.

Pink has always worked for us. We fight over them! Whoever ends up with any color other than pink - hardley ever catch anything!
