Went out into the sound today, had promised a mate a load of squid- he hadn't caught any before! Started off slow with a few averege size, then moved along to another spot and got a couple of small ones.

Move again to the seawards side of the channel with a couple of spots bringing up squid, medium to small- my mate then thought he had snagged on some weed before we were going to move but it turned out to be a bigg squid, with a mate following <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> . I chucked my lure out to get the other squid and then helped my mate out, get his in and then delt with my one- both would of been above 800gms.

Hung round there for a bit more an got a few more good size squid then headed back in to find the spot that took the boat big squid out the other week- nothing that big but got a couple of 700gm ones.

Lost half a dozen to bad neting and stuff <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> but I managed to get my mate wanting to get some more next time we're out

Not as big as the squid comp, but as good! Just been told my mate can spend some cash on gear from the finance warden <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> She was very pleased!

Morning All,

I was wondering how the squid numbers have been around Perth latley ?????? The last time I managed to get out it was quite slow. I was hoping to give the tinnie a run over my next break down Rockingham way.

skittles, spoke to a mate he recons he went out the other day from woodies and did quite well, ended up with 10 but said he could have easily got 20 but had no need for that many. Said they were in closer than where he usually heads out to.

That's it shorty! Once you find em you can have a good session. When we go land based we can do a bit of travelling to find em. I guess we do the same for boat based, some spots have a few and some spots just go off.

Has anyone been getting any round the back of GI?

Went out north of hillarys a few weeks ago where we usually get good numbers. Turned out we got nothing. The tide was unusually high and the weather wasn't ideal and we got out late but was still very surprised and very disappointed. Moved spots/drifted all over the place, switched techniques and used every jig I had but they just weren't on. Will have to try woodies by the sound of it.

Hi Guys, I"m new to the site but have been squidding for years. I fish from shore with a Yamashita feelin shaft 8' 6" and the 7' 6" off the boat. The 2nd Calamari Classic is on the 14th of November. The squid have been moving a bit and in the last month the kilo plus guys have been only comming up to smaller squid that we use as teasers. Good luck to all my egi brothers.

Hi guys,

Popped down to the ammo Jetty this morning for a couple of hours to get the kids a snack. Hard work but managed to get medium sized ones in the bucket and lost 2 on the lift. Once the breeze came in aroud 730 I just about froze so that was enough for me.I tried the same spot thursday arvo for no result, and one of the locals had toiled away during the day for 4 little buggers. I know the boaties & yakkers are doing well in the sound and out from hillarys, but are there any shore based spots doing well? I need to drive from the hills anyway so it doesn't matter if they are NOR.

I'm trying to convince a mate with a boat to come out squidding, but he has never done it before and I don't know any spots apart from Busselton. Is it good enough to just look for ground in Cockburn sound or is there some good general area's to start with?

Goof luck to all those in the Classic next weekend, I might pop down at weigh in and have a look.

Yes the yak boys are doing o.k i gave a couple some tips yesterday and their had their best morning ever and they have a bit more confidence going into the Classic next week,i popped out again this morning for some good results.

Land based do find it hard, most wins have come from the moles which are silted up from dredging,,last years winner got a bit over a kilo for 5 squid which is a pretty low weight (two of mine today would have been that bag) but for $10 he got two custom made egi rods around $1500 in prizes all up (passed on half to the next competetor) So the thing is get 5 squid no matter the size and you have a chance at some great prizes, you don't even need 5 to win.

Heres one i got today,,i peaked a week early my bag today might have won next week, lol (got about 9 around Woodys and 14 yesterday around Naval base)

Oh yeah just find the weed beds around the sound for squid (weed and sand combos)
