Thanks Glen , never scored a fish ( well skuid in this case) on a lure before. So, from a skeptic to a believer overnight.

T's certainly the most special experience, bought a squid rod from oceanside, a coupleve jigs and strolled down to woodsman for a try out and whaddya know.

Its funny how things happen when you least expect anything to happen... i suppose i shoudeve stayed longer but for starters i was contented with one..

t'was intriguing really, oh you know what their shiny hypnotizing colours do to us squiddos... haha

Good work zwoots. You only need a couple of squid for a nice feed mate! Just keep casting into that weedy structure and move around if the squid arnt there!

Got a few on the north side of hillarys this morning. They played by all the rules, hit the natural colours in the clear water, hit the jig on the sink. Not great sizes but good to get them all the same. Sumizoku in the purple with blue eye and Daiwa MD in the brown, both 3.0 size, moderately aggressive jerking style.

Can't wait for the classic on Sunday.

Cheers.

Yeah they're 'gold' (purple gold?). Got two of the squid in consecutive casts with it. Gotta try to control myself and not buy any more fishing (and eging) gear. I've spend too much this week gearing up for salmon and the calamari classic.

Well by the time you folks have read this the classic will be won and lost, i did a prefish at Naval base ,only a few small ones around,a mate of mine found the same at Woodys PT (both in kayaks),,it might be tough for the inshore crowd we shall see.

I picked up a jig i have never seen before at Compleate Angler (Keystone) a pinky, reddy type with stripes,,i will give that a burl with my pink/purple harmitsus.

It the weathers fine and waters clear they say greens the best colour,,so that will get a run maybe also,,

How did you guys go ?

Oh and i saw the squid iki sticks in compleate, never seen them before in shops.

Echo i know what you mean!

Shorty, the squid this year have all been little tackers! Went out 2 weeks ago and did a lot of travel on the boat and the biggest one we got was half the size of last years!

Keystone are great jigs, real bold tattoo like patterns, i have done well using them, they seem to sit in the water nicely too. There are a few different types of iki jimis for squid, not many places sell them though, check out www.fishonproshop.com.au we got all the squiding gear!

didn't end up fishing the classic. Went out off hillarys instead and got 4 decent squid (more if we hadn't been going for fish too) and a new PB. 25cm tube length and 530g. Not an absolute monster but still respectable. On the Kibinago Rainbow.

Glad to hear the Keystones are a great jig Peter,i stuck mostly with a pink harmitsu, got 20 squid and a huge cuttlefish but never bothered the leader boards, a tandem kayak won,,which means two folks are fishing instead of one,,booo,,LOL

Was a fantastic day out around 120 competeors, lots of $700 EGI rods given away,Engel generators etc professonal squidder from Japan flew out again with his secret tips,,looking forward to the next round in june,, <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Been running for about 3 or 4 years, generally there is 2 rounds a year. It's a great comp and good day out for anyone from serious anglers to families. I think the idea is to get it to be a national type of comp like ABT. Would be great if it was like that.

From what I understand Pete the comp started up last year. Round 1: Sunday May the 17th 2009? That was the one I entered and i'm pretty sure it was the first. May have been other comps around but yeah I'm 90% sure that was the first.
