Drew you could try fishing over at garden island plenty of weed patch's and you can can some decent sized ones there plus your in the running to also catch some kg's as well

Or try the mussel farm out the front of the grain terminal always does well for squid and cuttlefish

[quote name='daveyjones' post='12737' date='Oct 5 2008, 08:55 PM']Hey people these windy sea breezes over here in Perth are really making life tough at the moment for squiding and ripping tides are not much help.I have had a brilliant 9 months of egging off the stones so i cant really complain.

Might start heading down to busselton and do an evening, early morning fish soon.

Were you fishing off the jetty or from a boat?

If from a boat, where did you find most productive areas?

I hope to get down there in the next few days.

Cheers

Hi Neil,

I was fishing from my dinghy.Had one fantastic session anchored in 10 m where I had to let some go but drifting or anchoring in 4 - 10m did'nt seem to matter there was always squid. When anchoring I would put the pick in a sand patch and position the boat over weed then hang jigs over the side on handlines while casting a yo zuri around the boat.

hope you have fun down there and may the squid be with you <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi Hopper, I didn't do too good, I picked the worst day weather wise to go, blowing hard westerly, showers of rain etc.

Only managed to pick up 2 before we packed it in.

Let me know when you are going, I may join you.

Cheers Neil.

Seahawkwa, try around south mole mate just near the e shed markets. You can also try around the rockwalls in the fishing boat harbour where maccas used to be in freo, also if you get there early in the morning you can get some great squid in the harbour where kalis and joes fish shack is, i have pulled some beatys up from there early in the mornings. My mate has done well at the coogee marina, also have talked to people who have said there arn't as many in number there but they are big when you get them.

Hope this has helped you out a little bit!

Cheers,

Pete

seahawk suprising you didn't get a single one, even on a bad day you should still get 2-3 squid. Were you letting the jigs get to the bottom before jigging again? You really need to work the jigs in different areas all up the rockwalls. I have found they sit in patches, when you find 1 there are usualy a few around. as for timing, 5.30 is fine mate, even go from 4-7ish.

Cheers,

what jigs were you using? IMO shorebased i think it's important to use a good japanese lure, the cheap ones just dont cut it if there arnt many squid about. In saying that there is always debate about cheap ones do just as good but i think this isn't right shore based. Boat based you can still get squid with the cheapo jigs but through testing of my own and a mate we have found that the expensive ones 100% catch more squid. Shore based a good jig are the jingo rocketeers, you can cast them right out so your jig spends more time in the water then being recast!

Went out in the sound yesterday for some crabs, was a late start and about 150 boats out there. Was very slow so we went squiding instead, this turned out to be very slow too, we tried a few spots that we usually can bag out at, but only got 6 and released a few small ones. Give it a few more months and they should be in good numbers again.
