Hi guy's, went squdding armed with silver whitting and jigs, started at portarlington just on dark, saw about 6 caught but the size was very small, all of them about 6 inches long, I didn't even get a touch, decided to move down the road to st leonards and try, same thing again saw about 4 people catch little 6 inch babys again, gave up after 2 hrs empty handed again, determined not to come home without a feed I moved again to close by queenscliff, by this time it was 2 am, as I was walking along the jetty I saw 6 people land one each, this time the size was better, about 12 inches long, I would say about half a kilo size, not big but 6 would give a good meal, I set myself up and 20 minutes latter BINGO ! two one after the other, these were bigger, about one kilo each, my spirit had lifted ! then the arse fell out of my night, THAT DARN SEAL SHOWED UP !! guess what ? you got it, nothing the rest of the night, Can anyone Help ? Ive decided to try and breed WHITE POINTERS, I'm convinced there's not enough of them ! if there were the seal population would not be such a problem, stay tune for my next adventure starring ; desperate Pete and sammy his pain in the arse side kick seal,,,,,,,,,, cheers Pete. Yes I am still alive but havent been squidding for a while as I have set up a new home and havent been online due to not having a pc at the moment



Mickey ..moonless nights are the best try fishing with the full tide around middnight the action should start around the ten oclock mark







ANYONE INTERESTED IN MEETING UP FOR A QUEENSCLIFF SESSION IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS EMAIL ME I WILL BE MORE THAN WILLING TO TEACH NEW COMERS ABOUT THIS AREA and techniques used ( if you supply food beer and entertainment lol)

Hey gys

Fished Queenscillff last week just before the big downpur we had

The squid where around but not interested in any baits or lures on offer although one angler did catch six in a ten minute period but thats all that where caught

they squid where moving fast around the peir stopping only for a quick glance at what was on offer

it was a full moom night so things will improve as it dissappears

Fished the pier a week ago for 3 medium squid on silver whiting jigs. Not many around but only 3 ppl on the pier. Water was a bit murky.



Going tonight....maybe 2 or 3 am ish. Full moon so will see how I go. Might try artificial jigs aswell.

In a word.....CRAP.

Had to fish the top end of the pier cause the rest was chockers. They had gas lanterns and generators with flood lights but didn't see anyone have much success.



Full moon, lots of weed and when the sun came, up all you could see was a couple of stingrays and eagle rays.



Bait used - Silver whiting and artificials of every colour

Hi there guys...



I have only recently moved to the area, I am living in Drysdale...



At the moment I sorta have to stick to the piers cos dad refuses to take his boat out yet (17 ft half cab) untill he finishes building his shed and doin all his renos.

Just curious, whats the go at this time of the year around the piers... i go out a fair bit to st. leonards and queenscliffe but not much happens... a few calamiari if im lucky but thats it... ... Any info would be great.

We went out to the St Leonards pier tonight for a few hours, but that was no good... nothing much happend.

There was only one other guy fishing there, only got a few Banjos as well as a couple of undersized Snapper. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

but N E ways... we might have to try again in the next few days....

When Queenscliff is that full of people the best thin you can do is go home because their is too much noise and too many lines in the water and squid are easily spooked. Whenever I fish there and theres a big crowd the squid are scarce

your better off t st leonards if Queenscliff is booked out

G day fellow sqiud men been catching squid on plastic pink,red ,green jigs for years tryed fresh garfish an sand whiting on jig ..but had no luck at all sea lice were completly destroying the baits in minutes...Eney one know of a way around this or when the wont be there in such numbers

Seems to be very quiet at the moment but its hard to judge as the wind keeps on blowing.

I just had a thought, you know the deal with box jellyfish and lifeguards in North Queensland wearing pantyhose to protect them?... Well, I thought maybe if you could cover your bait with some pantyhose material, the lice couldn't eat it, but the smell and look would be unaffected for the squid.



Maybe someone with a forgiving missus who has some old stocking socks could do the experiment.

Quickly fished St Leonards pier for about 1hr on Sunday, 15:45~16:45.



Mum got 1 rock flathead at 30cm on a green squid jig and i got a small calamari on a pink jig. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />



Noone else on the pier caught anything while i was there....

Fished St. Leonards pier saturday night between 7 and 10 pm with nothing to show. Tried again sunday morning and got 3 smallish squid. I used a yozuri 3g blue back with orange belly.
