those seals at queens cliff are dynamite if your not onthe ball it good bye sqid as you say the will take the squid right of your jig in under 10 second i too almost had apole break but the knot gave way so it was pedro nil seal 1squid and 1jig plus 3 metre of line (may be we should try some dynamite LOL)

What size and type squid jigs do you prefer to use in your area??? Is there a preference for larger or smaller jigs??

I usually use 2.5 or 3 jags - when im doing it that way, but my preference is for baited jigs......

I have 2-3 new jags in my tackle box i wanna try, so im gonna give them a crack next friday - will report how they go.

hi all

Well the fishing at Queenscliff Peir was very quiet on Wednesday

The peir was all but desserted all day and night with one fisho taking a dozen nice sized garfish about 10 am in the morning

I went for a look at the boat harbour and two guys there had bagged 8 good sized squid at about 5 pm

I have yet to catch squid from the harbour and have discovered that when they are there they dont hang around for long but when they do they are in good numbers

It was a full moon which I say would have put the squid off the bite at night

Hi guys I'm back

Well its on again fellas

.

Plenty in the 1 too 1.5kg size in Lonsdale bight.Need to be early and the water clear. they seem a bit small for this time of year and as usuall are in the shallows until late Sept.

Fresh roughies or salmon as decoys and 3.5 and 4.5 in green and pink.

Reports are that squid to around 500 grams are being caught in the Queenscliff boat harbour as well as salmon and trevally, but the peir is still quite at this stage

Queenscliff boat harbor PPB

The area where the boat traffic lane opens up to the Queenscliff boat ramp directly behind the abalone factory in the last hours of daylight on a rising tide mainly on calm clear days the runs come in short bursts and dont last long but good numbers can be had at times also excellent for trevaly mullet and salmon



Queenscliff back beach

During the summer you can fish from Queenscliff back beach right of the sand and catch squid, the start of the run out tide is the best, a ten foot surf rod and a jig under a float is what is needed here action stops on low tide but you can get them any time of the day, big leatherjacket and parrot fish thrive in this area along with the occasional salmon



Bells Reef

Situated on the Queenscliff back beach this rock is big enough to fish two or three anglers it can be accessed as the water resides during low tide and is aprox 70 metres from the shore waders will make things a bit more comfortable but once your on the rock theirs a bit of moving room care must be taken as thier are big holes while tranversing to the reef Very very productive for squid and huge travellyand salmon

Lonsdale bight fished really well on friday night 2mates and I bagged in 2hrs on fish to 2kg.

Saturday morning in perfect conditions only 11 squid ,fished it today for 3.

I think the full moon has slowed them a bit as we saw quite a few crocs laying on spawn but couldnt tempt them.

Maybe mid week they will fire again with a bit less boat pressure.

Well Queenscliff pier has finally fired up

I fished the peir Wednesday night for 10 squid at 30 cms on pink lures

other anglers though struggled to get past 3

High tide was at 12am and wind was S/SW

You have to work for you bag limit and spining was the winning technique alot of anglers missed out because they used poles and left the bait motionless I find this technique useless on calm nights

First squid was caught at 12, 30 and the last at 4.am when the rain and wind picked up

Yes there where still quite a few people at 4 in the morning I thing my bag motivated them to stay later



Id say if there wasnt a full moon more would have been caught



I had reports on Flinders and has really fired up over the last seven days but Sunday and Monday not one was caught, but the ones being caught are very big and in good numbers when around, so yes time to go at it

hit queenscliff yesterday for a fish and a go at the big calamari. I'll stick to the calamari report since thats why we visit this site <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



in the morning there were >50 boats in Lonsdale Bight which put me off totally from trying to musscle for a possie <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> so we decided to drift fish through rip and then have a go at the calamari in the arvo.



Arvo arrived so we drifted the outscirts of a much less number of boat, approx. 10.



First drop and i was onto a NICE one, as i brought it up another came from nowhere and had a go at the hooked one <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' /> the other 2 guys on the boat didnt get their jig down quick enough so we missed the follower but one of the guys hooked into a small arrow squid, we he preceeded to drop from his hands cause it wrapped its tentacles around hid hand and the guy got spooked <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />



next drift i missed a massive calamari on a baited jig, got it within 1m next to the boat when it let out a last minute lunge <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> and ripped itself free from my silverwhiting jig <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> i was devastated cause this thing had a hood of at leadt 50cm.



Anyhow we ended up with 5 calamari and they got caught on green and orange jigs

here is a pic of the combined catch,... we drifted back over the spot i picked up the pinky hoping he was part of a school and i got hit big time with tell-tale snapper thumps... only thing is i dropped the fish halfway up <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Great catch mate, bad luck about dropping the snapper, I hate it when that happens. If only they didn't have such a bony mouth. That fish on the left is a seargent baker right? Are they any good to eat?
