mate, the weather was magnificent last night !!! they said it was going to be 16 with winds and a little rain but it was clear skys in queenscliff with just a 2min little rain.
well it was a slow night, fished 5pm-2am. At the start of the pier was 3 people with their squid poles, they didn't let anyone next to them. they basically had like 5 poles each person.
well i went out after the shelter, was quiet all the way till 11pm. we got 3 in 30mins. The guy next to me got 4, 2 massive ones easily 1 kg+, and further down the pier about another 2. you really have to be patient at queenscliff, it takes a while.
i would like to thank the guy next to me for teaching me and showing me the squid pole. i went out and bought one today ! i think their much easier then casting.
anyone have any cons/pros on them ???

my dads been going every friday nights for the past 3 weeks, 10pm-6am. he always comes home with only 3-4 very decent sized !
btw we been fishing on squid poles lately, their pretty cool !!! but the most effective one would probably be our fishing rod with a silver whiting under a floater, launch it out and let it drift !
oh yes last week, my dad had something on his squid pole, he lift it up and there was a crab hugging onto the silver whiting. he would not let go of it, so my dad lift him onto the pier, and he was running for his life. it was very funny!
still waiting for a night to bag out, have never bagged out at queenscliff before...

I had a crack here a few weeks ago....we caught 6 in total.
This place is probably the best pier based calamari fishery in the state, perhaps the country?
Might be a good topic for a question poll?

did you had a night session or day ?
90% of the squids we caught were during tide change - to high.
that's it, never active besides the tide change, pretty boring at queenscliff, but they are huge there !
if you live in melbourne and want huge squid, queenscliff is the place!!! portsea is wayyyy to far for the same speccie + size.
mornington is very active to me, i always bag out, but the squid there are small !!!

managed again 4 good size squids. most effective to me was the floating rig on my rod + reel. others caught small squids on their artificial jigs.
was a night session 10.30pm-5am. the worse night ever for fishing, rain thunder lightning , u name it. everyone crowded in the shed/house

QUEENSCLIFF PIER CLOSED UNTIL OCTOBER
hey guys, been a while since i havn't updated. my dads been going to queenscliff pier every friday nights this summer. he always comes home with at least 2-3 very good sized squids. probably averaging 5-6 per night. session is 9pm-7am. he just got back now, he went there saw the pier was closed then U-turned it back home. His not the best with english but he said he saw closed, under construction until october. well there goes his summer of squids...
anyone can recommend a simular place??? we love queenscliff alot though, they'v got the shed and the place is just peacefull. very big pier where everyone can spread out, and can catch a variety of speccies. so we'r looking for a new place around queenscliff. one of my relos has been squidding around "the boats" where all the lights are, and he bags out everytime there. does anyone know where his talking about??? anyone has tried on that side before ??? im not sure if he was reffering to the boat ramp or near the queenscliff- sorrento boat. is point lonsdale any good ???

I have not squided at PT Londsdale but have seen people doing so. I have seen some BIG occys pulled up there as well. I reckon it might be worth a try. There is a fair bit of weed around which is always a good thing. Have you tried searching this forum for PT Londsdale?
good luck
cheers,
nala
