Sydney - NSW
Just seeing if any one has braved Sydney harbour lately considering the wet weather we have had in last two weeks? I went out last weekend but got skunked as you would expect with the muck in the water, but i did find some nice spots around neutral bay area.

Went out yesterday to Vaucluse for a quick squidding session, only had about 45mins of light left but i definately made the most of it.

Started with a 1.8g natural coloured jig, first cast i manage a small squid but not worth keeping as i was after a feed, few casts later i manage a few cuttlefish then i finally manage to get two squid worth keeping.

As the sun was quickly setting i only had a few more casts left before it would have been pitch black so i swapped over to my fluro pink 2.5g jig and cast a bit deeper, first cast and im onto a beauty, at first i thought i was snagged on the weed but then the drag was going off so i knew it was a decent size, i was just hoping it was a squid and not a cuttlefish!

Hood measured 27cm, a new P.B for me as i usually only ever use my 1.8g jig for smaller species.

Anyway, bagged it and took it home for a feed...well worth it!

It was a Yamashita, but not just a normal lfuro pink jig, it had a tiny blend of other high vis colours mixed into it.

I rarely ever lose jigs, i think i've only ever lost one in my life so id prefer to spend a bit more money on quality as i know they last longer.

Jase, there are hundreds of spots if not, thousands of spots in the Harbour that are great for squidding, but there are alot of variables involved with fishing in general as you would know. Maybe your technique isnt right or you are using the wrong gear and jigs?

You dont neccessarily have to try off public wharfs, rock ledges near beaches also produce well. Just make sure you are fishing the right areas with sandy/rocky/weedy bottoms

hey man,

well i have spent alot of money on my squiding as if i go squiding i just target squid and nothing else, I use to catch round 2-3 each night, Picked up around 10 at times around the harbour but as i go to these spots now , the people that went there while i was there ABUSED it seirously buy catching 20-30 squid each night before this there was the other squidders catching same ammount i did and would leave it at that as that is enought, But at this time i tried soo many places and cannot get 1 squid, I was at rosebay, with the ammount of people there i couldnt even get a jig in the water, double bay, edge cliff, same goes for them <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> kinda getting over it but would be nice to just have that squid feeling again , i think you no the feeling haha

Hey Ben, saw your posts on S.A, good to see you here as well.

Jase, just so you know, there are more squid on this earth than the entire human mass put together so dont worry, there are LOTS around haha

I usually only fish in the East as its close to home but if i have the time i will usually go out on my own to look for new places and spots which is the best way to go. No one usually gives up their secret spots so why not go out and find your own!

Thinking of heading out later tonight for a session, finally some sun but i hope the wind holds out <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/moped.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':moped:' />

Berkley Egi Master[/quote]

Where did you get it from? I've been trying to find a tackle store that has them in stock as I'm deciding between an Egi Master and a Shimano Sephia Egi.

Got it at Chatswood Bait and Tackle, but i got the last one, i would definately recommend the egi master as it is a sick rod

I went and had a look at them and was about to get one when I saw the Nitro Custom Squid rod.

Paired the Nitro with a Stradic 2500FI spooled with 6lb Suffix Elite.

Woolwich Ferry Wharf is where my mate and I do most of the squidding. Next time we'll go I'll take some photos of what we got. It's a nice spot with some shelter and light and it's great at night.

I recommend Balmoral Warf jigging over the weed beds I have caught many squid here, also at Balmoral the far left side off the rocks over the weed beds are great I have been down there spearfishing at day time and there are lots of big squid. Another good place is off the warf at Manly Aquarium on the right side of the main beach. Hope this has helped you guys out.
