I was wondering if anyone has heard of using tuna oil or similar on their squid jigs for improved catches and if it actually makes any difference ?

Another attractant is "salonpas" which is a medicinal tape u can buy from asian grocery stores. I heard of this on another website. You can wrap the white tape onto your jigs. Does this work? well i still caught squid. so it didn't hurt. not sure if it increased catches though. I must give it another shot.
i believe that using tuna oil or any other burley can attract fish and thus give the squid a reason to hang around. as for dipping the jigs in oil, i only tried this once so not enough to say if i <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> t improved catches or not. best of luck, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

Tuna Oil defintely works. I was fishing for squid one day (Second Valley, South OZ) and we were catching nothing, and neither was anyone else. One bloke on the end of the jetty was dipping his jags in tuna oil (he had two prawn jags on his line) and pulled in 3 or 4 double headers in a row - so i think it defintely works - only thing is that the oil makes clothes stink, and can also ruin cloth covered jags.....

Hi all
Yes tuna oil does make a difference, I discovered how much when I dumped some tuna oil soaked fish guts off Queenscliff pier and bingo within about ten minutes the squid where on the bite while no one else was getting anything and thats happened on several occasions. Prawn essance is supposed to be the best thing to use in berley for squid but I am yet to try it, how ever I have seen people I have fished with use all sorts of oils and fish attractants only to leave with fewer fish than anyone else. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> SUPERSQUID <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

Hi there guyz,
I use razorback jigs in 4.0 or the yo zuri jig with wire so that i can attch a fillet of fish 2 the jig. I have found that this outfishes lure jigs alwayz. On razorback jigs tie the wire 2 the pins in the back and wire the bait on the back section of the jig and tie off at the end. On the yo zuri jigs the wire come with it and has a special pin 2 hold the wire. I fish the baits under a small cork. I do know that chopped pilles also attract squid. often when burlying uo 4 fish I will c that squid r the 1st fish 2 come in the trail. just my experiences, sK

berkley powerbait (fake bait they use for trout) works for me. just smear it onto your jigs. it comes millions of colours, flavours, and shapes and costs about 10 bucks.( enough to last months.) Best of all, it comes in all flouro colours so you can switch jig colour without spending $$$ on new jigs.
By the way, I use a rainbow colour in a paste. I cant garantee it will work for you but I can garrantee it wont hurt. ps it doesnt smell either..

I use Tuna oil quite a lot.I like to mix it with crumbled bread, the bread sinks and distributes the oil thru the water column. It definitly attracts squid and also smooths the water surface making the squid easier to see.I have dipped jigs in it too ,but prefer prawn or Egimax scents.
