Hi everyone, Im new to the site but not new to squid fishing,

Hit mornington pier tonight from 3pm - 630pm, slight NW wind blowing..was pretty quiet from 3pm-5pm...then withind a 30 minute period caught 4 nice squid, using an orange 2.5 yamashita, bloke next to me got 2. Thw squid have been a bit quiet in the last week, I think it has to do with the merky water from all this beautiful victorian weather we are getting...and the next 3 days are meant to be pretty nasty too..while at the peir tonight I was slowly retrieving my jig when it scrape over some weed...well, thats what I thought, then when I got it up I had caught a lost jig....<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> ..actually jagged it throught the swivel clip that was on it....WOW..you could never do that again in a million years...but all in all, wasnt a bad night down there, the new peir will be great when finished, at the moment they have 3 sections done and its up to the incline part, not sure when it will be finished, but the workers down there had fishing rods out at the end of their day.....what a job hey, no wonder its taking so long to finish..lol

Might have a crack at blaigowrie peir in a week or 2, have heard rumours that the peir is black with ink, its meant to be a great squid area..

Hit stoney point tonight...slight .NNW wind...alot of ink about..but no squid......threw 2 rods out....one loaded with fresh squid strips for some whitting...and one straight down for some fun....the rod straight down got me 7 yellowtail scad (5 to 7 inches long), perfect size for my baited squid jigging excersion to portsea later next week maybe..also 3 small jackets which also went back....the big rod out far had a few good hits, but only managed to land a 2 foot banjo, which I kissed and threw back <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> ...

got there 2 hours before high tide and left 1 & 1/2 hours after tide turned...lookin forward to trying out these scad on some jigs at portsea or even off the rocks at mount martha.

untill my next fishing trip...thats it from me.<img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':thumbsup2:' />

hi glen..great forum,

by the look of the m'ton pier, I doubt we'll see it open this side of christmas time.....they have only done 1/2 of the pier at the moment, and with winter setting in, im sure it will slow them down even more, unfortuantly........its a real headache fighting for a spot on the small jetty atm with it sometimes getting quite crowded.......little seceret....go there after 6 pm,(when the workers have gone home) and you can get out on the peir, its very easy to squeeze around the gate and fish in front of the mussell boat and even up further, quite a few folk are doing it now..I suppose they're frustrated too in the pier taking close to 1 year to only have 1/2 finished..

went out to flinders on satday but got lost on the way there(never drove there before) ended up at stony point pier was wayyy to windy there left after only ten min. So we headed to mornigton got there at 4 30pm jumped the fence and got on the big pier, they are still only half way done been nearly a year[Image: mad.gif], we jumped the crack in the middle and gave the end a shot, got one 20cm hood on 5th cast with a red yamashita jig.

only one we got till 6 then we got on the small pier and got 2 more each only 8-10cm(we used them for bait) on white glow in the dark jigs. other guy got 10-15 brim on the big pier he used pipis for bait.

also thanks to who ever cut the hole in the fence on the pier.

nice to get back on to the pier... eventhough it's only half done... went last sunday... first cast and got one... good size for mornington. one guy saw me pull it up and came over with his jig, caught one similar size few seconds later. Only one for me though... good lunch <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> good to get back on the water again.

went to mornington pier again this morning, around 4:30 am - bleary eyed, it was raining when we got there... thank goodness it stopped after the 4-5 cast. hardly anyone there for ages... i think they had the right idea... didn't catch a thing, my brother caught two small ones around 7:00, so we decided to keep them for snapper bait. Left around 8. saw a good fish swim by and inspect my jig - not sure what kind it was. Didn't see many squiding...

me and my brother has been going...

the squids are very tiny, probably the size of your hand. every time we went, we would manage less than 5, saw a guy bagged out once because he was persistant. you have to really work around the pier. their not there in numbers and size.

yeah it doesnt look like their going to finish the second half of the pier. probably even bulldoze it .

The Mornington pier is still fish well with garfish, calamari and the odd whiting a popular catch. When the weather has been relatively calm, anglers have done well on garfish from the end of the pier. A float setup has been highly effective with the fish falling to silverfish baits. Berley is essential.
