theres good numbers of coota at mornington at the right time of year.



Just chuck anything small and silver around daybreak and sunset, and you'll bag out. most guys use them for bait.

mate all you can do is try,

keep goin out there, you may have many cold nights catching nothing it all,everyone does but you still learn plenty.

go to a local tackle shop, i go to aussie disposals in rye, ask whats been going good in the area jig wise. i bought a few ebay jigs

but they are not that good ive found.

i was wondering if i use a small jigg like 1.8 to 2.0 do i use a sinker? i found wen i was using a lite one it didnt really sink that fast if so how would i need to rig it up? cheers

i use a sinker sometimes mate, just use something small on a seperate line about 6 inches long tie it to the eye of your jig!!

Last year i learnt something GOOD! Went squiding early winter morning and realized my toes were really really cold... looked down and found out i was were those flimsy dress socks! The result - minor Frostbite on two toes!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' /> Still love going out there though. THIS winter i'll wear wooly socks!

I've never fished for squid in the night - i've always gotten to mornington just on sun up and fished till usually 10 in the morning. There's days i've gone and there's nothing and days where i've caught 4. Sometimes i go with my brother and we catch 8 between us usually around 7am to 10am. I've never caught squid on the left side of the pier although when nothing's going on on the right that's when i see someone catch a decent sized squid on the left.



I bought wooly socks today <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> ... might get up tomorrow morning to squid, depending what the weather feels like in the morning.

from 4 to 7pm... got 1 squid... and saw a guy got 1 as well... few people on pier...a bit windy and wave...

MORNINGTON:

We have still been receiving solid reports of calamari being taken from the Mornington area this week. It seems the most consistent time to catch them has been on the high tide at first light around red rocks.

As the sun rises, then move into the Fishermans Beach area into 5 meters of water.

The most consistent jigs have been the new Clicks in both 2.0 and 2.5 sizes in the brown/ Gold and Camo colours. Harimitsu jigs have also been working very well.

Gday all,



Not too many reports being posted that I can see so I thought I better get out there have a flick, and post a report. Went to Mornington Pier with a buddy on Sat 21st. Lots of small squid being caught. We bagged 10 in total but released a couple as they were pretty small.



Most of our catch was about 20-30cm. They came on at the start of the incoming tide.



Were were using blue/white and a silver (natural colored) yamasitas. But I saw small pink and black jigs getting hit as well.



Started and Portsea, got zip, but saw a boat drifting in between the end of the pier and the shore nailing some good sized specimens, bout 8 in 30 minutes. Gotta get me a boat or Kayak.



Off to Flinders next to chase the monsters.

Hi all,

That is so wierd. I was at Portsea too that day and also caught nada Nala. But when I also went to Mornington I almost caught a massive bird after it dived bombed my squid jig. I found doing a run up cast with my double baited squidjig setup was also quite unsuccessful.

So once back to basics we also bagged ten squiddies. I hope that the freezer hasn't ruined their meat!

Went down to Mornington over the weekend, caught 17 squid with a mate between 10 - 26cm hood.



Fished at night, using a pink yozuri 2.0, my mates $4 kmart special did just as well.

Mornington:



Mornington has seen large numbers of squid still being caught from both the land based and boat angler. Best jigs have been 2.5 Harimitsu in darker natural colours and flashmax jigs in colour 8870.

fished mornington 8pm-6am yesterday, was a very quiet night, i expected it since the low tide was at around 10pm i think...

didn't get onto a squid until 12:30 am, then when the high tide came in around 4am, got 6 within the hour. decent amount of people on the pier but didn't see much action.



there was heaps of fish that jumps up and makes big splashes, from what i see they look like garfish but then i saw a few fat ones too. plenty of bait fish around. does anyone know what are the fish that makes those splashing noises on the surface ???

i want something else to do while the squid is not on lol...

me and my mate went to mornington over the weekend we where on the small peir got there at 12:00pm on satday till 6:00pm and got 11 squid we used red jigs. came back at 8am and left at 5am and only got 5 it show that thay come and go ehh. all the squid are prity small about 10 to 20 cm long head parts



what do you guys cach the baracuter on and how far to you need to cast, how big are they?
