Brighton pier and surrounds - VIC
I just got back into the country after 3 weeks away. So brighton is still looking good by mase's reports. How about Beauy? I am keen to get out but the cold is not going to make it easy... So whats the reports. Where are the squid hanging out??
every reef is good, some places have bigger squid than others.

there eating habbits are hard to track but not alot has changed, they are very angry atm with spawning and big squid are easy to get due to being close to shore.

black rock, beau and brighton are still the best spots....

i have not fished beau for awhile as weather has not been that good and other places have more shelter form wind.

just get out and have a go...

Finally went out again, Friday night i fished from about 5 til 6:20 off the rocks at Brighton, Used my pink Yo-Zuri Flashdancer and i got 2 changed to a natural as the sun was on the horizon and got nothing so went back to the Flashdancer and got another 2 all decent size. I had 2 friends with me who were using some of my cheap $2 jigs and between them they got another 3 so all in all 7 were in my bucket.

i know the reports a bit late but, better late than never i guess

The brown flashdancer is a very under rated jig, mines taken a fair few when nothing else would work.

hey pat.

i got there around 6:20 and was chatting to a mate that was fishing, get got a few from the rocks.

brighton has slowed alot, but then next week it might pick up.

there was high winds pushing through last night so squid mite not have moved into shallow water.

Fished spot Black yesterday until 11am, got one around 27cm, couldn't stand the wind after that.

Fished spot 'Brown' at the change of the tide this morning, out of the wind. Bupkis. Moved to spot 'GoldenRod' and got sweet fa.

Few more days until the tide change is closer to daylight, should bring the little bastards out.
No problem...

Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie and have started posting over the last couple of weeks. I stumbled upon Squidfish recently and realised I wasn't the only bugger obsessed with squidding! Any chance of giving up some Melway references for some of the spots around the Brighton area. I'm from the West of Melbourne and haven't really fished the eastern side of the bay all that much but it sounds like there are a few around even still. Where about is brighton pier?

P.S Happy to exchange some hot spots and tips in exchange

just go to the rocks at Brighton that's a good spot there are better ones round Brighton but that is really good and not to many snags or u can go on the concrete part of the pier that is also good but has no snags <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/zorro.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Hi Dave,

thanks for the tip. Not knowing the area, I am still a little unsure - are you talking about the rocks in and around the Brighton baths and surrounding areas?

This is the best spot on the breakwall, anywhere back from here to the where the sea baths end, is prime squid country.

Thanks for that - I really do appreciate the tip. It means when I get a couple of spare hours I don't have to travel 1 1/2 hours to queenscliff everytime. I always wondered if there were squid in any numbers this far up the bay.

If you want any of my hotspots on the western side of the bay let me know and I'll show show you some of my favorite locations.
