also compleet angler have a sale one.[/quote]

I stopped fishing at Lake Karkarook since no more fish (we caught them all...hahahaha)!

Tried Mt Martha on sunday but was not much good. Though I caught 3 nice leatherjackets which was a nice change as I had not caught one there for ages.

If I were you ...I would wait till Anaconda has a sale. They have some good deals sometimes. Compleat angler are a rip off 90% of the time <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Hello all.

is a 2000 size reel to small?

i have been using a 2500 but found a daiwa reel 200 size very cheap.

what do we all think?
Reply
i don't know about the sizes, but my rod and reel combo that gets squid is $39.99 from kmart. lol

does the job nicely. i think my dad swapped the line to 12lb, less tangles and can handle the bigger thumpers.

i used to use the $20 telescope rods, they have the tinniest reel ever with extremely light line. that thing does extremely well at mornington. bag out most of the time.

hrmm maybe that could be the answer, maybe my line is too thick for mornington. since i upgraded, the numbers went down.
Reply
the main thing good rods do is cast better and the jig action.

the reel just has to have a good dag, i will have to go hold a 2000 size reel to see i guess.

rain does not stop the squid....

brighton has been good, the pier has been much better than the rocks, 3 lights after the seabaths end i think is the spot.

i should be there but late, i will fish high tide so i think that is around 2am saturday.

i will go around 3pm to another spot though.

to be ohnest all of the rocks, best spot on the pier is at the last shelter, on the right of it, you will see the ink.

and for the rocks, find yourself a nice flat rock close to the water but a few have a black moss on them and you will slip................

fishing from the rocks is a great place to part ways with jigs, from out in the reef or as your winding it and it gets caught on a rock or seaweed hanging off the rock.

there is always people fishing from the rock so just go and watch for a abit then get yourself a nice spot not to far from them.

if you want to look where the reefs are so you can know 100% where to fish have a look at google maps.

any dark reef is good for squid.

thanks for the tips man, you'v been awesome help!!!

on the right on the last shelter ??? i always thought it was on the left....walking outwards. i been fishing the left side the whole entire time (sea bath side) !!!!

good luck to you tonight !!
Reply
they are on the left aswell.

i have found the squid start at the rocks first, then the last shelter then right near the sea baths.

you can catch squid at brighton any day any time but why fish for hours and get 1 or 2 squid when you can go at right time and place and get 5 or 6 or even bag out

i heared brighton had a heap of people and not much squid until late?

i was with a mate at a spot we call "spot black" we bagged out in 1 an half of fishing, a couple good ones around 800g-1kg.

megabass, yamashita iba and ajk did the job......

water was very clear by the way, i recon tonight will go off....

they hardly bite on a low tide at brighton, unless its on the run out.

well maybe others have had luck on a low tide but i never see to.
