Went to Beaumauris Pier tonight 11PM - 3Am and ended up with 3 and one big one. My personal best. The big one was caught at the end of the pier on a sumizoku black / greenish on. Lost my last flash dancer and spewing big time.... Water was clear and wind was low so could cast both sides of the pier easily. Overall great night getting my personal best. First time trying my new shimano sephia bb reel out, not a bad christening....

Ian,

I got it on ebay for AU $198.14 Buy Now. That was complete with shipping. Yeah it is great. The double handle makes it easy when jerking and then giving a hard spin to take the slack. It just makes the handle yurn by its self in a balanced way...

I tried here an no stored had them and really, im just over paying so much for goo gear when you dont have too.

Because I got the new reel, I needed soem egi line quickly (im impatient!!) and bought 120m 0.8PE for $78 and when i get home its 3,800 Japanese Yen ($46 Aussie). So were paying nearly double its a joke... The line is good.

I had bad experience with this line. It won't last long and very weak.

yeah i've been reading some similar reviews online for the Gosen... discolours quickly and breaks under the normal conditions.

try some of this, most of the big squid bloggers use http://www.naturum.co.jp/community/403153.html

i almost bought some Gosen because G-Factor has some, and he likes it. Then i read the reviews.

I also read some disappointing things about the Olympic rods and the company weaseling their way out of warranty claims.

I am currently using varivas avanieging. Not the X8 braided one, but good enough for me. I put it on my spool before Christmas and almost fishing everyday if the weather is good. Never break even once. very good line. I can get 160m one about 65-70$ depends on the exchange rates.
Reply
i like the 8x stuff because i find it twists less on my outfit, the old Fins braid i had never twisted or caught the wind like the stuff i have now.

I'm probably going to run a PE 0.8 x4 and 1.2 x8 spool anyway.

Just on topic with the gosen line, I know I havent used it for a long enough period of time to really judge it, but it really is great so far. Discolouring doesnt make any line bad, it just means the colour comes out. If it effects the strength, then thats a totally different issue. But I have found it is very smooth and casts very well, have had 1 tiny windknot which was easy to get out, and its very, very strong. I got a snag the other day, even with only 10lb leader, and I couldnt break the line. Was suprised the leader actually held up as well, but aside from that the main line was just great. Plus for around 40 bucks I reckon it is absolutely top notch.

Plus 7.1kg line for 0.8 PE is amazing
Reply
Yeah it could just be bad batches of line like the daiwa stuff mason had issues with, it happens.

I think most line that weakens is due to abrasion from wind knots and general use anyway.

Also i think that other than proper jigging, nothing is harder on braid than eging the japanese way.
