Gold Coast bridge + Grand Hotel Esplanade area, QLD
#1
G'day Pedro & Nick

I have not targeted the broadwater for squid but have had some luck outside using

YO-ZURI brand prawn style lures .

there are others available but you will have to judge those for yourselves.

They often attack the Pilchard baits when fishing outside. and they are attracted to the burley stream too.

the land based spots to try would be off the jettys with overhead lights and good clean water

say near Gold Coast bridge or Grand Hotel esplanade area

i've finally fitted my new led lights

(pics will follow when i remember to take the camera)

testing out green and blue lights as well

fished down the coast last night, the water was quite cloudy

however we caught 2 arrow squid in the stadium

maybe as the water warms up it might be more productive

mikey

the stadium is the area that all the yachties anchor up

north of seaworld along the spit

it has a weedy bottom in places, 13-15 ft deep in the centre and no current

our light tackle black marlin season has started <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':beer' />

was out on sunday and got 1 from 3

what does this have to do with squid?, well....

we decided to fish out wide heavy tackle as well, in 175m we came across a school of bait mid water,

after trolling around it for 10min we decided to find out what it was.

the bait had risen to 30m so, as you do, we sent an underwater camera down for a look.

arrow squid and heaps of them, but you guessed it, not 1 jig on the boat <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':wh' />

not only that, but the footage was deleted before i could get a copy <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />

I dont believe it... I believe the squid part, I dont believe the part with not one squid jig aboard.

What did the squid look like on the sounder?

it wasn't my boat that i was on, the problem has now been fixed!!

when the squid school was down deep, it looked like a normal bait school without defined edges

as they came up, they flattened out rather than staying in a ball

i've seen this out here before on several occasions, but never this shallow at midday

if the squid came up to 30 metres it would be a good sign that there was no hungry predators about to eat them.

bet it was the last time you went out without a jig.....lol.

mug
make squid your friend...then bag them
