Bremerton, WA

What is the status with the public access to the Bremerton Docks? When I went last year, they had closed the public access to start their revitalization project. Can we squid at the Bremerton ferry docks once again? Have the squid shown up?



Any help would be appreciated. That is a long haul from Bonney Lake.

I haven't heard any reports from Bremerton area lately, but have heard that they have been getting good #'s of squid in Redondo. Smaller the jig the better!!!! Most people that I have talked to said that daytime is better than at night lately. As for bremerton area, have you tried the Waterman Pier??? It's on the Port Orchard side, and generally very good squid fishing there.

Thanks in advance.[/quote]No info on the Bremerton docks, but I went squid fishing a few times last year at the Brownsville Marina. Plenty of room, decent lighting and availability of power. The squid we got were generally pretty small but tasty. Closer to you might be the Les Davis pier in Tacoma. Have you tried that one out? When they're in the squid were bigger there, but it was kind of hit or miss last season. In addition to the Waterman pier suggested by Jon, I've read about people having good success at Retsil pier but haven't tried it myself.

I just heard from one of my customers that the Bremerton pier at the Passenger Ferry/Marina is now back open. Sounds like squid fishing has been fairly good as well.

i usually squid at the bremerton ferry docks.. but tonight we decided to go to brownsville since bremertons ferry docks have some new rules. something about kicking people out at 10pm? and no lamps allowed.. and you can only squid at the end of docks and not by the boats anymore. some buddies and i only cought a couple small squid in brownsville.. arrived about 8pm and left around 11:30pm.



feels like squidding has gotten really tough these pass few years!

Yeah Illahee sucks now too, the dock has been full every time I've went out this womter. Before I'd only see maybe 1 or 2 people if that there a few years ago. Hopefully they don't catch all the squid there, I've seen them even keep the tiny squid too. Haven't been to Brownsville in a few years but had that problem, how they lock it up after 10.

Oops and yeah squidjigdotcom, I think the Watermans Pier has been closed from what my dad said. He said his friend that lives over there said it was closed and they tried another pier in Port Orchard but got skunked.

I dunno what you heard about Watermans Pier..... still open, still people fishing.



Here's my recent report.



March 4 - Port Orchard

150 squid, about 3hrs.... Was trying a new 2010 jig design, and was totally cleaning up!!!!!



March 5 - Port Orchard

80 squid, about 3hrs... not as hot as the night before, but squid were still hitting on the new 2010 jig design. Different tides I think is the major difference from the two nights. Very little current on March 5.



Tried a new recipe, that was EXCELLENT!!!

A little butter and oil. Chopped small onion, a few cloves of chopped garlic.... Saute a few minutes.... Add some curry powder, and about 3 tablespoons of Coconut Cream. Add some chopped squid, and saute about 4 minutes, and put over white rice. It has to be my favorite recipe now..... all the flavors definitely worked together!!!



That's on the menu for breakfast for Saturday as well!!!

I have heard squid fishing is popular in the sound and would like to get into it. Live near Brownsville marina and was wondering where, when and how to fish for them. Would like to bring by boys with me and have some fun. Suggestions appreciated.

Your area (Bremerton, Brownsville, Illahee, Port Orchard, Waterman Pier) is probably the best area in the whole Puget Sound. It's almost year around in those areas. Best times are usually Late June-August October-January. Summer can be a lot of fun taking the kids, as it can be quite productive during the daytime. Extra Small jigs are usually best for the summer squid, as well as winter squid if they are small. We have quite a large selection of the Extra Small jigs if you need them.
