Newport Ri 2014 Squid Season
I just came back from GI and got dozens of them within 6hours. I'll be fishing on GI again.
Yes, the squid are in Newport now and they are the large tubers!

Quote:Has anyone noted significant ink stains on the causeway?
Ciro the squid are at the causeway, maybe I'll see you there. Ciao
Anyone going tonight? I will be there with a red wagon and generator.

I was wrong. There was no freezer burn on those! .

I will be going tomorrow night.  Spot = undecided

GI ink is up! And to the jackasses in the boat 10' from the causeway, casting towards the causeway, WTF?!?

Told ya. As soon as reporting squids are showing up. Those jackass showing up.

I bet you that guy is south eastern Asian.

Bahaha
Hi guys, I've heard about RI squidding for years but never motivated myself to purchase the necessary gear/lures/lights until this year. Was wondering if someone could help answer a few questions for me:

1. I understand that the squid are now in. How long will they be around?

2. Are flashlights/spotlights really necessary or are green neon glow sticks (attached to the jig) just as good?

3. I've heard nothing but great stories about the GI causeway, but can anyone advise on other squid hot-spots in Jamestown, Scarborough, Narragansett, and East Matunick?

Thanks in advance?
Squids is every where in New Port. If you on a boat stay away from the bridge, on the left hand side between Washington and long Wharf will be best.

Peace

There were actually three boats out there. The two other boats that were 30-50 feet away from the causeway. At one point, the one boat actually drifted so close that I couldn't drop my jig without hitting their boat. I just don't understand, when you can go anywhere in the harbor/bay and catch squid with the boat, why go to one of the only publicly available shore places and fish there? Plus, running a boat is an awful expensive way to avoid paying for parking. Smile

Thanks Guys. For the updates, Its nice of you to post. I hate driving all the way down there for 1 squid. Im hopefully going tonight. What time do think will be good?

I call it as "penny smart dollor stupid!"

Yea. They are that much dumb enough to bring that boat near shore line.

Really annoying people.
Caught my first half dozen squid ever here last night! Better technique would probably have helped Tongue

Nice to meet you, AT Grimaldi, see you around!

Those boats were getting a little annoying, but they all contributed with lights, so maybe they weren't entirely bad?

Had a blast!

Someone needs a rod with 30lb test and a weighted snagger and harvest their lures, and hats!  with all the GD pressure on the causeway to fish and all the rest of the other side of the causeway that they could be fishing, they are just being pricks, and they need a lesson.  Just saying....[Image: WS_350.jpg]
Every one tie on sabiki rigs and all cast onto their boats. Too bad someone couldn't get "sick" over a too close boat.
Saw someone squidding in a very small boat with no motor, no lights and no life jackets in 50 degree water at night. An undertaker's dream!
went this morning and filled a bucket in a couple hours Smile. walked up and down the bridge few times changing spots. thanks to the gentleman who lent me a 1 oz sinker!

It was a great day compared to the last several years!
