Scents To Attract Squid
#41
Ultrabite spray is distributed by Rapala VMC.

It also comes in 3 glow colours as well, blue, green & orange.

I haven't tried it to be honest, as it's formulated to attract fish, but might have to give a whirl <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

i gave salonpas a shot a couple of times and it certainly did not hurt but i can't say if it helped.

i had a bit of trouble with it falling off the squid jig so i gave up <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

if anyone is interested, you can buy it in asian grocery stores. its a white tape inside the packet and it smells a bit like vics vapour rub.

I used the salonpas muscle relaxant too... the squid I caught were so relaxed they kept drooping right off the hook before I could land them!!! The one I did manage to catch and land behaved like a jelly fish on valium... My calimari was the consistency of overcooked Chinese noodles!! So much for muscle relaxers and squid!!! (I'm joking!! never tried the stuff.)

This company makes 3 different sprays for squid fishing:

1) エギ&ヤエン ライン専用コンディショナー!- I am not sure what one is. I think it some sort of line conditioner. (I hope some our japanese friends can help with this translation).

2) イカ誘引剤 - This next one is an attractant for squid. You spray it on the squid jigs.

3) エギ専用 表面保護剤 - This one is the coolest of the lot! As far as I can tell, this spray is used to protect the squid jigs from the stains of squid ink! You spray it on your jigs and the squid ink will not stick! This is a great idea! If anyone has used this spray, please let us know if it works!

Keep it short and sweet. ....I am curious as to what the "squid jig protector" is. Number 3 in the post above.

Or even any other known squid jig protectors.

Cheers to all.

Hi guys,

Been following this one for a while. I have heard of all the above scents used for attracting squid. Stimulate seems to be the one most use with success. Rubbing a pilchard on the jig and dipping it in tuna oil are also popular ways to scent the jigs too.

Not tried any scents to be honest, but am planning on it so will let you know how I go.

ive tryed salonpas , wd40, hayabusa pen, egimax, berley with bread, rubbing it on pilchards/yellowtail n other stuff over the years.

now as a attractant the only thing i found to attract was:

(in this order)

1-the use of a egi/jig (even better with a good technique), or live bait

2- berley with bread, basically attracts garfish, mullet n yellowtail, which creates feeding type frenzy then atracts squid.

thats it!! they dont smell, but they do taste, thats why the sprays n sents work to keep the squid intrested, every time it hits ur jig with a candle its tasting aswell as feeling. instead of hitting it 1 time n fleeing, its tasting n feeling and saying yes this is food, and therefore your strike rate goes up.

what i did notice that does work to increase the strike rate :

salonpas- yes worked, quite well increased my catch on few occasions, but i found its due the reflection of the white material rather than ingredients so i use it as abolone sheets, but only on new jigs coz they stay on the longest if there new.

egimax- yes works, found that some squid hit it harder coz of the scent/taste, but then alot of the time it didnt work, it was more "of this day is a pink jig nxt day blue jig" type of mood for the squid. its like some loved it n other couldnt give a hoot if it tasted like tuna oil.

hayabusa pen- i quite liked the pen, but again only use to mask the scent/smell of the jig n found same or no better that the egimax.

wd40- i know its abit out there, n like wtf? :wh  but found the lube to the same texture as egimax, with its own kinda arroma plus stop ur prongs from rusting anyway. i honestly cant say its gona get u more squid, coz it doesnt, but it didnt turn em off. lets say its still ongoing

rubbing fish on ur egi: yes works, probably a fraction better than egimax but u have constantly reapply.plus the idea of flicking an artificial lure only to rub bait on it, sorta defeated the purpose Rolleyes

Love my squid fishing and just came across this great site.

I have tried all the scents. And have recently found one that is awesome. Pretty cheap to.

They have 3 scents but the prawn scent is the one I use and get arrows to green eyes.

Check them out they are called Carnage lures on Facebook.

Or website www.carnagelures.com

Cheers guys and looking forward to being an active member.
