you can pick up a light for ~$55 from any fishing tackle store. I got one for an uncle from JVMarine a few weeks ago for $55. They also had a halogen globe type, anyone used these??

A tip for when there is a bit of a ripple on the surface and makes seeing the bottom difficult, have a small bottle of cooking oil and a stick with you, dip the stick in the bottle and flick the oil out in front of you. The surface tension of the water changes and the ripples will reduce dramatically helping you spot those flounder much easier
My dad takes a few olives with him, eats the olive, spits out the pip and achieves the same result as the stick and oil trick <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Jazman thats one pimpin rig setup you got going there....is there a better resolution photo somewhere. I wanna get some ideas for my setup. i'm guessing one side is for the fish and one for the battery???
I tend to find i'm carrying so much crap!! would be good to have a setup like that!

One side for the fish, one side for the battery, and never to be mixed up (the fish side gets a bit stinky sometimes). Having a float sure beats lugging stuff on your back, and you can carry a lot more stuff 'just in case' like a torch, beer, smokes etc etc <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
It's really pretty simple to make a float like this, it's two 25 litre plastic jerry cans on their sides, with one side cut away, and with thick PVC pipe around the outside, sealed so it's airtight. The pipe acts to keep the jerry cans together and is sortof like a life jacket to keep the whole thing afloat.
I've only sunk it once, but that night there were big waves breaking over it, and it didn't sink until the cans were pretty much full, so it's seaworthy. That night I learned that if you put a 12v battery underwater bubbles come off the terminals <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
That looks awesome Jazman. All we use is a tub with a tyre tube, and just put the battery and net in there and just chuck the fish in around them........One person has the tub tied to their waist with rope and they hold the light, while the other person (or two) carry spears. We usually refuse to go without at least 3 people......
Another thing is to leave a light on shore where you want to get back to - where we do it, there are no other lights in sight, so its hard to find where you want to get back to - we ended up in the wrong area last time we went, as our battery went flat!!
Not much fun!!
SA - the land of the bigger fish. The fish on the east, measure the least, but if you head west, you'll be bringing in the best!!
My setup is a laundry basket with a floating noodle wrapped around it, those long foam sticks you use for the pool. cost like 3 buks at kmart.
i carry my battery on my back, its a little motor cycle battery and prolly doesnt last as long as the car batteries.
I try to net my flounder so to keep them alive and fresh longer...i also prefer them without holes <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
i find that when netting the flounder just sit there...i put the net right in front of his head and kick him...and he runs into my net...voila...live flounder...no holes, lol
