I am interested in recreational squid fishing on the US East Coast. I live on the coast of North Carolina. Does anyone have information on this?

I found this site by accident, sorta, after reading an article in Florida Sortsman re squid rigs. It sounds like a hoot to try, i've never heard of it before. I suggest getting a copy of Flodida Sportsman mag, the September 2003 issue. It shows how to make and fish a simple rig - cost about $3.00 I haven't tried mine yet but will soon. Good luck <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hi Jawhawk. Welcome to the site!
Once there is enough USA interest I will create a dedicated US Squid Fishing forum. Tell your friends about it! Quite a few Americans/Canadians visit the squidfish site so you should have an answer to your question about North Carolina soon. The squid fishing in Rhode Island is great! I like to fish during the fall... Although there's a lot of small ones... The biggins' are moving in. Our squid here doesn't get as large as the Aussies, but there probably as tasty. They say that Newport, Rhode Island is the only place to catch squid here in the Northeast. I see license plates from Mass, Conn, and New York that go to Newport for squid fishing. During the fall I recommend smaller squid jigs and during the spring, any size is good. I don't like spring squid fishing much, because it gets awfully crowded... I'm talking about violation of elbow space crowded!
Try fishing off a short bridge or something in NC... or drive by at night, maybe you'll see people doing the squidding motion. Hope you find a squid spot in NC! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> |
