Agree with Calamariaddict. No generators. Some nights in Huntington last season I had to just leave. I couldn't take the noise of a half-dozen engines running right behind me, plus multiple arrays of high-powered construction lights. Soooo oppressive. Enough to make you go deaf as well as blind. If you love squidding, an underwater light and battery is the way to go.

-Just spent a half-hour trying to upload a pic of my squid rig. Not working. Will try again later. I use a 4' hydro glow green light. Battery is a Optima blue top. I got that battery to run a trolling motor off of. Weighs prob over 50lbs.  It's more than is needed for the light. 

Our battery weighs about 10-15 pounds and it works fine.

Good to hear others get it that noise is NOT good for anyone. I use a 1500 watt inverter that converts 12v to 110 so can operate a small flood light with a regular plug say 100 watt led more than enough, but I agree underwater light is all you need most times.i mean squid live in the dark and do well without us lighting up the world for them. A little light to attract bait is the premise here. Boy the bug is getting me bad and can't wait for that first trip.BTW Egiman I have tried to tie the rig you showed me with palomet knots etc. just can't get it tight like you do so I let jig swing freely in the smallest dropper loop I can make. Works fine too, but always open to new ideas.

The squid come back to the docks in late October? I thought this just happened in June?

Ok. Been struggling with this. Hope I've finally got it. This is the rig that worked great for me last season, even while deadsticking.  I use 4-8lb. Flourocarbon for this.

Just a note: I had some problems with the light initially. The first one delivered leaked. The owner of the company was great about replacing it immediately. Next, I found that the clips which come with the light are not suited to use in saltwater, and were poorly attached as well. One actually fell off by my 3rd trip. This was an easy fix for a few bucks with a new pair of marine grade clips properly attached to avoid fatigue of the wires. Haven't had a problem since, and am happy with the light's performance.

how long will the light last with the Optima blue top battery you have?

Now hydro glow light comes as a globe the suze of a beer can. Owner says a lot brighter and latest LED technology. Many lumens brighter than 4 foot model. When you call he tries to steer you away from old stick light models. We will see since I purchased one.

How strange. I can see the pic when I view the post on my computer. Nice and clear. It even shows up in your quote of my post.   I'll keep working at it.

 

I could probably run my light for days off of that battery. A 5-hour outing doesn't even drain it by 25%, and the battery is over 4 years old.

I have question, will the led light will have overheat problem if use too long ? and the battery is rechargeable right?

As long as you keep the light underwater it will stay cool. The battery is just a lead-acid deep cycle RV-type battery, similar to a car battery, only designed to discharge slowly rather than in a burst to crank an engine. Optimum brand are expensive, but they last well, and won't spill acid. You need to keep lead-acid batteries fully charged or they will die quickly..

The jig is ON the leader. Direct tie. No loop It allows for maximum contact and control of the jig.

Nice. I still have a problem when you pass Palomar's loop over jig how do you draw it so tight so jig close to leader? Do you leave any play between knot and jig swivel?
