Short Description:Well this pier is very popular with people who come down to the Mornington Penisula and also people who dont wanna fish on the piers that are close to Melb CBD. The pier usually fishes great for squid most times with the best time to go is 4 00 pm afternoon or early morning also it has a good spread of fish u can catch like snapper and also gummy sharks etc. the best place to catch squid is towards the end of the pier and who ever has been to rye thats after the turn on the pier. The only downside with this pier is in summer u have to go there early and get a spot cause u get heaps of anglers down there.

Short Description: My fave fishing place for squid at night due to not alot of anglers come down there when the squid is on u can get a very good catch of squid also heaps of tommy roughs down there as well as heaps of octopus . i like this place heaps and whenever i go down the weekend or xmas holidays at nite i go there and fish always thats like a ritual for me. Best place for squid is the 3rd light near the start of the pier or anywhere after the small pier and down toward the last light of the pier.

Nick also reported that a friend of his fished deep off Blairgowrie last weekend. He used fresh squid for bait and managed a snapper of 5.6 kilos.

Fished blairgowrie tonight with a few mates and a few cans, plenty of squid in the water, nothing huge around, very timid tonight, managed 3 for the night and a nice trevally on a feathered rig . <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Hi Rob, how does the feathered rig work? Is that like a fly or something?

i pick mine up from kmart or anaconda, they come pre rigged , i cut mine down as i rekon they r a pain in the ass with 8 hooks. all they are is a tiny hook with a feather, sometimes plastic wrapped around them. bit like a fly, good for gars aswell.

Ah ok you mean like a sabiki rig. Just be mindful that any more than 2 hooks is technically illegal (in Victoria) at the moment but they will fix this soon I believe in the new regulations which should apply from 2 March 2009 ! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />



Here is what is proposed as the definition of a sabiki rig for Victoria. You will be able to use one sabiki rig in victoria at a time.

2 centimetres in length and less than 3 metres in total length that is attached to a fishing line;

yep, there the ones, i knew they were illegal, i buy them and just cut them down to one or two hooks, i rekon they are a pain in the ass with 8 hooks on them, heaps of tangles.

well blairgowrie was very dissapointing tonight. not much about at all, mate dropped one very large squid but it never came back, managed half a dozen average size just as we were leaving. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

no i didnt but i did notice a "strong smell" in the air upon arrival

sound they are around port philip bay

my friend were there around sorrento and got 5 little calamaris in 10 minutes. then nothing for 3 hours

fished sorrento for 30 minutes tonight for 1 nice sized calamari,

was not looking promising there so we vrntured down to blairgowrie which looked equally as ######,

so we jigged away and after an hour with only 1 more squid in the bag we started walking back towards the car.

we stopped for a quick jig in the shallower water and i got 6 more squid in about 10 minutes. nothing huge but happy with the catch.



once again

blue 1.8g jig is all im catching them on, they wont touch anything else at the moment <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Decided to go squidding on Wednesday arvo with some mates at Portsea but initially hit Blairgowrie to see if there was anything. After setting up the baited jig with a pilchard and casting to the right hand side, I was on within about 5 seconds. Couldn't find my float so I thought something was wrong until I saw the tip dive, reminiscent of squid bite. Squid was about 30cm long. Headed to Portsea as my bait became plagued with sea lice.



Wind had picked up and got slighly choppier. To make matters worse, there was no lights at Portsea pier but not to be deterred we gave it a crack. Was quiet for a while but managed to nail a sizable squid (on a baited jig). It measured between 45-50cm long.



Guess things are looking pretty good, waiting for spring to get the warmer weather in to test out my chances.

your waiting for them to start and we're just about to kiss ours goodbye for the season.

cant complain about this years effort as I have caught around 200 and about 165 were caught on 1 jig which I lost yesterday...sob..sob...bummer dude.

good thing I have spares.

are the lights back on at portsea yet, they were still out last week, me and phil were fishing that storm a few weeks back and the squid were going crazy, but than the light when bang! no more squid!!

so you were doing well in the storm? how rough was it at portsea? was the water still clear during the storm?

yeah this was goin back about a month, i checked the wind speed site that night and it was 43 knots when we were on portsea pier, we were nailing them.

water was dirty , i have found down that end that when the water is clear we have no luck.

Interesting. I'm guessing your used the squid jig? Can I ask what colour(s)? My friend has had some success at Portsea with the natural/brown coloured as as well as pink jigs.



Me, I personally use baited jigs as they tend to nail the bigger ones. I'll be heading down there tomorrow, hopefully a) lights are back on and <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> some hungry squids want a feed



(Has anyone heard of anything from Flinder's Pier?)

hi mate, i have been using blue 1.8 yamashita and 2.0 yo zuri.

lights are still off at portsea , had a look tonight.
