Newport, Ri - 2006 Squid Season
Hey, thanks! Maybe I can call them ahead of time if I can get their name or something. What type of jigs work best in your area?
Based on my experience, Yozuri (Pink and blue color) worked greatly for the last spring season. most of the time, I used size 3 of this product. seems like Yozuri product more expensive than other product. however, I think that is worth it!

The name of the shop was Edwards but I can't remember what street it was on. Maybe somebody else can help out with more info.

He is just north of Newport and the Goat Island bridge and had a bunch of squid gear.

Edwards Fishing Tackle is one of our customers, and they have a good selection of jigs.

They are located at 297 Connell Hwy, Newport, RI.

Yes that's it. Thanks for the assist.

He did have boxes full of jigs so I think he will have anything needed for squid jigging!
Any updates with the squid?

I may going down to Newport tonight and try my luck.

Last year (mid Oct), my wife makes me throw it back because squid was a bit small.

This time I'm going by myself <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
What size squid do you guys get in Newport? I'm from Seattle area, and our squid are 6 inches to 12 inches.

Update:

Get to newport around at 8:15PM

Using Martinetti Parannah Squid Jigs... I used the green one (got this as an extra, thanks Jon) caught around 6 squids.

Blue fish bites, the line brokes and lost my favorite jig ..... argggg...

Luckily, I saw Dave, (he used to worked at Edwards Fishing Tackle) he gave me a green Micro-Prawn Squid Jig, got three squids in less than 5 mins. The time is 10:45PM ... need to head home ...

Attach is image of 9 squids ...

p.s: I found that on the Fall @Newport, the smaller the jig the better .. size 1.0 is the best....

Hi sfoxnh,

Glad to hear that the jigs are working out well for you. I'll have to admit, the Micro-Prawn Squid Jigs have been a BIG hit this year. We had a lot of guys using them with great success, even when fishing was slow for others on the dock. They would just use a single jig only, and just give some little twitches of the line as it slowly sank (consistant catches).
