unless I am mistaken PJ you are going out for arrows out of aussie. What we have up here is a longfin squid. lifespan is about max 3 years high rate or reproduction and growth. the hatchlings they are laying now will be able to be caught about 5 to 6 months from now ( allbeit very small 3" to 7" or 8cm to 18cm) in a fall season before they push out to deep water for the winter. squid up here is considered an unmanaged species probably because it is so plentiful. the drag netter boats pull in quite litteraly tons of squid on the spring season. and as long as I can remember scince I was a little boy squidding it has been like this. there was a couple seasons where the catch was quite a bit smaller. but now it seems like we are back toward days of old where filling up buket after buket may be coming back. if you ever get the chance to come to NewEngland in May take the chance to go to Newport, RI you will have some fun.
Take my word for it, there are so many squid in those waters that our 299 wasn't even a scratch on the surface. I finally finished cleaning them all and now have a freezer full of fluke bait <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
HEY GUYS I WENT LASTNITE IT WAS COLD AND A BIT WINDY. THE SQUID WERENT REALLY BITING HARD LIKE SUNDAY. I ONLY GOT 51 SQUID I WAS THERE FROM 10 PM TILL 2 AM.
I read a report on CTF.com from a few guys who went up last night in the miserable weather. Suffice to say, the report was not good in any sense of the word. I believe they got 6 combined. It was no weather to be out there in.

A friend keeps his boat at Warwick Neck so it is a short run South. You can launch at a public ramp at Wickford or look at a map for driving directions. I beleive it is near Sea Freeze Bait
