Squid Lifter
#1
Hi All

I am an Adelaide Squid Fisher. This season has been really good, with many boats getting their limit of 45 in no time.

Came across this on the net and just wondering if anyone has seen or uses them.

I've seen a few big ones over 1.5kg caught off the jetty, and some of the guys use drop gaffs (the same ones used on sharks off the jetty) to hook the squid and lift them up.

Seems like a good idea as I use 6lb line for most of my fishing and struggle to lift anything bigger than 1kg.

That is a good idea <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cry' />

I've also seen guys using drop nets (like the ones used for yabbying) although it is harder to manouvre a pumping squid into one of these. I have a very long landing net (4m) that I sometimes take when I go squidding off piers. It works well, but it's very long and cumbersome to carry.

Another thing I've seen is an extendable pole with what looks like a huge jig hook on the end, which is used to free gaff squid.
