Clealand Bight, VIC
#1
hey ppl,

just read a recent report about landbased catches at Clealand Bight in the westernport area. it seems to be called the 'eastern entrance' as well.

i tried a search online and in the melways and couldnt find it..can anyone point me in the right direction?

reeling in a squid whilst standing on the beach sounds like fun ;-)

cheers!

also try a little further SE, the next "cove". you will see what looks like remnants of an old jetty. i have caught a few in this area as well.

cheers

ok cool, i'll check the cove out as well...

do public roads lead right up to the shoreline along that stretch? or will i have to park as close as possible and then trek up the beach towards that cove etc onfoot?

i'm guessing it is a tidal area with relatively flat swells?...i cant imagine casting out a float rig into surf....reports said ppl used float+whiting rigs at high tide.

thanks for ur help!!!

im guessing the area i marked RED is Cleland, and the Green: cove?

thanks!

Quote:Fishing the shallow weed beds along Cleeland bight has seen plenty of action on the squid the past few weeks. Brad Thompson has fished this area lately and been getting good numbers of squid to 1.5kg on both baited jigs and size 3 squid jigs. Silver whiting or pilchards under a glitter float is the way to go otherwise Harimitsu jigs in pink and orange in size 3 is a standout.
