Anyone catching any squid in the daylight from shore on Aquidneck Island? I have a couple hours tonight before sunset in what will be near the top of the incoming tide. However, I haven't any luck catching in the daylight.

Hey guys, quick question. I know that, when washing squid, the typical texture is smooth and a little slimy. But I rcently came across some that appear to be a bit thick and almost "rubbery" (at least around the tail section). Has anyone felt these kind, and are they safe to eat? Thanks.

No squid for Newport but still the parking lot is full. Â So there is plenty of time to do other things like pick up your trash. Â Â

Thanks for the info, Bill! But I'm referring to freshly-caught squid (so, squid that you just caught and then brought home to wash/clean). As I was washing some the other night I noticed a rubbery feel for a few, but I'm wondering if that is due to sitting on ice for a few hours. Oh yea, by "tail" I meant the end that doesn't have the tentacles (wasn't sure how to refer to it, and I had a feeling someone would call me on it), lmao!

Oh great, now the draggers are starting up. As if things weren't slow enough. I just read the latest squidding report from Frances Fleet. Appears that the action is very slow for them too. Is it possible that we're still some time away from peak season?

Went Friday night to Jamestown bridge, marked some nice balls of squid. Puts lights out and had a lot of 1/2" to 3" come to the boat with a few large ones streak thru with no takers. Left there and fished in front of wickford harbor managed a few extra large tubes. Night got cut short when I blew my lower unit. Sometime after launching I managed to pick up a hew hundred yards of heavy braid in the lower unit and blew the seals.

I've caught plenty of fish with the squid that I caught the last few outings. Â All I need is a half bucket (not even) until the fall run...

I've gotten 400 in the last 3 days. I'm tired of catching squid.
