I went down to Jamestown on Sat 4 hours before low tide. Â No fish or squids. Â Hoping for some good new this coming week with temps in the 70s.

Went to Newport 12am-3am -Monday. Moon was appeared very full and water was very clear. Only a few jelly fish and some stray bait fish. Id say another week by the the amount of life in the water. Hmm maybe we offer our deity a sacrifice and pray for a bountyful harvest. Our god must be angry with us this year. I will try to get one of my newb friends (gullible) to volunteer himself as a sacrifice and tell him it is tradition.

Saw small schools of squid under the lights last night at GI. Saw four small squids come over the rail. Stayed for an hour after that small catch and nothing else was caught. Here again today and will post whatever I see â

Fished Newport GI from 8am till noon, nothing, not even any ink spots anywhere, several other people came and left also, i asked the bait shops, the lobster men, locals, and no one has seen any squid yet, i guess the squid that came last week went somewhere else.

Does anyone know if the Frances Fleet has had any good squidding yet?
06-05-2015, 12:58 AM
The frances fleet will start it's squid and fluke season on 5/8. Fluke opened on 5/1, with a beautiful weekend to boot, and they never left the dock.
They still list friday as tentative. They are only going to go if they think they will catch something (and can fill a boat).

Quote:Just heard squid are being caught in Jamestown and Newport.can anyone confirm.still nothing here in Bristol and I'd really hate to drive to Newport for nothing on a work night Yesterday at 7:00 p.m, I drove by the GI Causeway. There were about 3 people squidding, unenthusiastically, on the sea wall. There was 1 person in a car thinking about squidding, 1 person pulled over talking to someone and 1 person actively rigging up a pole to go squidding. There was no one on the Causeway itself. There was no ink anywhere. I don't know what happened after dark, but I would guess more of the same. At this point, we are shaping up to mimic 2 years ago where the squid showed up late, in small pods here and there and were quickly scattered by bluefish and schoolies. Of course, it's entirely likely that there are huge balls of squid driving towards the Bay/Sound(s) right now, following the full moon/warm water/food. In my opinion, this upcoming new moon will determine how the season plays out. I feel that things will either bust wide open this weekend/early next week or they may trickle in here and there and the only person catching will be squidderbruce.Â

I just got back from a trip to CT. Jigged 45 minutes both friday and saturday nights 9-10 PM in Stonington. No hits, no runs, no errors. No ink on the dock, thought about going to the store and getting some and spilling it, but then thought better of it. Any day now, but probably a week before they hit eastern CT and RI.

That one person in the car thinking about squidding was me ahahaha! Went from 3pm-midnight saw three get caught and a large school of 30+ squid swim under the light and around our jigs

Quote:Ânah... I was lucky but I was pay attention what they react. However I went to GI,JT last night there is no such a thing reassembled as squid. I spend 2hours but I saw whole bunch of jellyfish and some bait fish. I guess it could be bust season. But who knows?
