well, a mate is coming back to melb next week, and we have decided to go fishing on wednesday. it will only be a day trip, but hopefully we can get an early start.
where does everyone suggest. i was thinking phillip island, but not sure where the best places are.
perhaps somewhere on the peninsula.
cheers

have a look at the cranbourne tackle fishing report.
i am guessing your best bet might be surf fishing down kilcunda way. go very early in the morning and you should catch something (i am usually too lazy to go early so i miss out)
i think there may have been some good reports for mornington pier.

Hi Steeny,
There have been some good reports down Mornington way - but to be honest, if you want to impress your mate take him floundering (weather permitting) - I reckon you'll do best.
Otherwise surf fishing at Kilcunda as Glen suggested, gunnamatta, or if you're prepared to drive a bit further, venus bay or inverloch.
This was in a recent fishing report:
Mornington Pier
This is the ââ¬ÅCouta Pier" at the moment. Large schools of small barracouta have been on tap for keen youngsters to hone in on their skills, as well as seasoned anglers stocking up for whatââ¬â¢s just around the corner. Casting small metal lures around first and last light has been a reliable way to obtain your quota.
Good luck and let us know how you go

well, we ended up at mornington pier this morning at about 5:45am. immediately got some small silver lures into the water and were rewarded with 13 couta to 45cm. unfortunately thats about all that happened. started blowing hard and we gave up around 9:30. did see a couple of nice salmon brought in, and a real decent snapper taken at the rock end of the pier. couple of small squid too, but nothing consistent.
anyway, i now have more than enough bait to give the snapper a go in a couple of weeks time. if only the wind would die down, i might even be able to get a flounder in.
cheers all

Arrgh, 'tis bin a while, mateys.
'tis a marvel, what a stranglin' gettin' engaged can give to a sea dog's love fer the sea. Haven't gone a spearin' or fishin' fer what seems a year.
Hope ye didn't miss International talk like a pirate day on Sept 19.
I'll see ye when I sees ye.
Back to engagement preparations,..... Arrgh.
Fresh air, tight lines, scales, slime and fins, 'tis the salty sea dog life for me. Arrrgh!
