Uk Squidjing And Trolling

Hi Chaps

Just joined your forum as I've got a bit of a buzz on at present about doing some lurefishing for squid.

My question is have any of you tried trolling squid jigs?

I'm a Brit. based in Yorkshire and my home port is Whitby. No one has as yet tried squidding around these parts and I was reckoning that trolling slowly (2-3 mph?) would be a good way of covering ground till a concentration was located. Rigs would be 1/2 or 3 jigs on a paternoster rig.

BTW silly question but do squid show up clearly on an echosounder? FYI I run a Lowrance Digital LMS337c.

Hi mate yeah down here in Cornwall we never seem to find a concentration , we tend to just drift and pick them 2-3 at a time , but not big pockets , again sing squid jiggs 4 on a line , we drift normally about 1-2 knts as we fish, and we do fairly well, hope this helps..sheep

drifting with them down on a down rigger would probably work well

Thanks for the info.

I've bought myself a whole lot of shrimpstyle jigs and I'll drift or troll these in 2s or 3s on paternosters as well as cast or flatline some singles on light gear to cover the water column. I'll also 'DIY' some balsa jigs too.

I also picked up a few of those Martinelli(?) humboldt squid jigs which i'll use to weight the deeper lines.

OK I know thre aern't TOO many 'red devils' off Whitby (NE UK coast) but you never know <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> do you. Anyway adds to the fun doesn't it.

I'm a squid 'virgin' so if you don't mind I'll be picking your brains from time to time.
