Hi BradS, JOHNAT and I (SuzySquid) would love to go tonight, however we are tired and trying to catch up on our sleep. We have caught a total of 80 Squid and had lots of fun. We are going on the Francis Fleet this Saturday night and try our luck on a boat. Please post tommorow and let us know how you made out tonight. SQUID ON.
I am also on that trip along with a few others ,so if you happen to see me then say hello.

I am waiting to see what happens with the weather though. I have been hearing something about a storm forming right off the coast and that might screw it up.

Hope not as I want to get some squid!
Hey SuzySquid and MikeKCT can you tell me how it went after you guys go on the Francis Fleet. I'm thinking on bookin and going on Thursday, since I'm on vacation. Hope you guys catch alot. Thanks!
still no reports down at the GI?
We might not be going saturday night after all. The conditions might not be good and the Frances Fleet site is advising anyone that was booked for the weekend to call them.

that's not bad for a big boat.. if it were a skiff it would be different. besides they aren't going that far out. so, what's the problem?

How much squid do a person catch on the Francis fleet?
How much squid do a person catch on the Francis fleet?
I hope $80 worth. I have to call and check out wether we are going or not. Its a 1 1/2 drive so I hope the fleet gives us a sooner than later answer.
I've been on the Francis Fleet 4 times total squid fishing and my luck has varied.

This year I went twice caught 52 squid Sat night May 5, then went again following Friday May 11 only caught 17 squid.

Last year I went out first trip of the year caught 69 squid.

2 years ago only caught 7 on the boat.

On the FF web site sounds like Thursday night was a good trip with high hook of 100 squid. The weather is a little snotty this weekend so not sure if they are giong tonight, they did mention canceling their day trips today.

Good luck if you go.
We did get out with the Frances Fleet on Saturday night and couldn't find squid anywhere.

The water was very cloudy with what appeared to be lots of sand suspended in it from the storm that just passed end of last week.

The Capt. hit about a half dozen spots with very little rewards to show. I got only 3 squid but that was one of the larger catches from what I could see in the buckets the rest of the crew had on the decks.

There were a few others that had somewhat more decent success but most folks caught nothing or only 1 squid.

However since there were quite a few folks aboard that I knew it was a very social evening for me. I even got to meet and chat with Suzy Squid and JohnAt, who also made the trip. Great to meet both of them, sorry for the lack of photos but I was hoping to get some shots with squid all over but it didn't happen.

Might possibly try again this coming weekend but won't determine that until later in the week.
what is up with this season?, there have only been one week of squid action.
what is up with this season?, there have only been one week of squid action.
It appears that way. I counted 10 days of good action at GI. May 2rd to May 12th. Suzy sqiud and I went out on the Francis Fleet Saturday night with Mikect. Mike got four while Suzy and I went squidless. We spent the night at point Judith. Went over to GI Sunday morning from 6:00 am to 9 am. There were 20 people or so on the bridge and no luck. there was lot's of parking.

After the action this weekend we decided to cancel our plans to go this evening. It is my opinion that the squid season is winding down. I just wish I filled my freezer.
I was out Sat night for about 3 hours, and only got 1. 3 guys around me may have caught 10 each.

Do the squid stop running completely, or do they continue just not as many?
I think there might be a little squid run with the full moon next week.
that's a facinating thought, the squids come in hard with the full moon.. do you guys think it has something to do with gravitational pull? or maybe with how the squid actually feed on... what is the exact day of the full moon?

It's my guess...and only a guess...that the early arrival of bluefish and the large number of stripers in the bay may be having an effect on the squid. They are probably still around but are probably being chased, eaten, and scattered about. Just a thought.

Skane
I was there today at 1pm for about 45 mins. and caught 5. All 5 came in the first 10 mins and then nothing so I went home. There was about four people on the bridge and me by myself near the park.
