Newport, Ri - 2007 Squid Season
Hi Dapooh65, I launched my boat up in Warwick and squid fished at the pier by the Navy base and the Jamestown bridge without getting a bite last night. I noticed from your post that youlaunched your boat on the Jamestown side of the Newport Bridge. Where? How long a run is it from the launch to Goat Island? Is the launch a public ramp? I'm trying to avoid Fort Adams because I hate goingdown the narrow streets of Newport with my big boat. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Snaildarter
Is it possible that the squid run is over as quick as it started?

80 squid is at least worth going to Newport for the fun factor. Look forward to trying Tuesday!!

My Husband (JOHNAT) and son should be there Tues on the wall, if not I wonder if the Squid will still be here on Saturday night. SQUID ON.
I fished Saturday night from my boat, nothing being caught. Oh well, still fun.
has anyone tried during the sunrise or little earlier. i think the last couple of night they wernt biting is due to the water be so flat i dunno maybe am just nutz but there was alot more movement in the water on tue wed and thurs those where the dayz people where killin on the catch. fri sat and sun you would be lucky to catch more than 5 thats my look on it. i dont know much but thats wut i notice
I'm telling you, Squid won't bite without me at GI J/k. I tried to drive by there was too much trafic. I will be there again on tuesday's night 7-10:30pm at the Wall, Come on down.

Thanks Stiper for very good info...

NailDarter....there's a public boat ramp (not really a ramp but do-able) in Jamestown, near the Marina. There are two problems...you can only take your boat in and out during high tide. The other problem is no place to park your trailer. I paid lots of money to park my trailer and to dock my boat at the marina...that's why I'm asking boaters to show me Fort Admas ...lol.....in your case, you want the other way around :-). I guess my boat is alot smaller than yours...only 18'

I use those floating head light type lights that hook to a car battery and last time I also used a halogen light but seemed like the others were working better.

I like th Ft. Adams launch only because I know how the cops are about parking in no parking zones and really can't afford that head ache at 02:00.

Is the use of a cast net legal for catching squid?

Thanks Dapooh65, I guess I'll use Ft. Adams again and try to go at a low traffic hour. My20' Aquasport can handle it but the tight streets getting there can be hairy. Will head there on Friday daytime and stay most of the night. Hope things pick up again by Friday. Snaildarter
hi guys, i went sunday morn/sat night @2 am and nobody was catching. i wonder if they moved further up the bay. the guys around here in bristol say theyle be here a week after newport. does this mean they arent in newport anymore? and i didnt notice any good spots between. no bridges, no jetties. im putting new stringers in the boat this week so im back to the shore. i dont mind a crowd if ppl are respectful, but ive seen/heard some strange occurances in the last week.
dang kacewicz what did you do with all that squid?
