I went GI last night and fished 8:00pm till 2:00am. I and my wife caught only 31 squids. Too many people and trash was all over the place.. I saw guy threw away his cigarret to ocean. So sad.... There were so many junks drifting on the water... Ocean isn't trash can. I fished near the park, not on the bridge. Because of too many people and trash.

I hope the junk is gone by Tuesday. The people can stay. I am looking forward to catching a few more than 30 but that's what hoping gets you. I wish the CG would come through just a couple of times so maybe the possibility would be enough to make people think twice.

Pretty cool site! You need to get rid of the freshwater stuff though to be able to keep the bigger bass or have alot of line capacity to fight them with.
I am computer illiterate (that doesn't look right either) and will figure out how to downsize pics sometime. Help was appreciated though.
I hope I have some better luck than you had. That doesn't sound promising at all.

Hello Striper and STork....I liked the "wish" link.....big bad stripers :-). Here are my questions and hope you guys can give me some pointers because I was in Newport last year and got nothing.
For stripers: What month and lure do I use? Trolling at what speed? I don't recognized the pics you posted on your site. I launched my boat at the marina right near the newport bride (On Jamestown side).
I trolled around and under the bridge....nothing.....
For blues:..same questions.
for Scubs: squids bait is better than sea worms? what months?
Let say...I'll launch my boat from Fort Adams....from the boat ramp, do I go left or right to troll for blues and stripers?
Striper...did you get a chance to get the coordiates for me at fort adams ramp? So sorry for too many questions...newbie with the boat (18 footer stingray) and new with the area...don't want to tow my boat for 2 hours and don't catch anything......thanks in advance.
Pooh
ps. I'm a "catch and release" kinda guy for the past 10 years in MA. salt water or fresh. Very respectful the ocean and lake and other boaters.

All fish are not strong yet as the waters need to warm a lttile more. The incoming squid run usually starts the run of everything aelse as they are chasing or feeding on the squid. There are the COW stripers moving north in May and then the hords follow. As far as a lure & speeds, they differ. Try to match what they are feeding on or get used to using buck tails as they are a good all year lure once they are mastered.
Blues- same thing, they are not really in yet but hopefully will be soon. They will hit anything a striper will and then some (sometimes a shiny hook will do).
Scubs ( i assume SCUPS) Squid pieces are good and you can catch more than one prior to re-baiting. When they are in for the summer they are excellent bait for live lining stripers.
As far as trolling for them in the river, I would concentrate on squid, maybe fluke and wait for the stripers or go out to the reefs at the mouth of the river to troll.
ALL the info you need for the Ft Adams launch is on pg 7. I think it was "Storkrd4" that posted the co-ordinates and pics of the launch.

Fished the GI Bridge yesterday from 6 AM to 8 PM......Couldn't believe the amount of people there. Fished the wall and on the bridge. I swear, there where more people than squid around on Sat.
Only managed about 20 between my wife and I. Oh well, thats how it goes sometimes. Maybe better luck next weekend. Pink yo's seemed to be the hot color.

I have better pics now in the member profile. Some were asking of the fish pic. They are Blackfish (Tog), Blues & Stripers.

Hi Dapooh65, I launched my boat up in Warwick and squid fished at the pier by the Navy base and the Jamestown bridge without getting a bite last night. I noticed from your post that youlaunched your boat on the Jamestown side of the Newport Bridge. Where? How long a run is it from the launch to Goat Island? Is the launch a public ramp? I'm trying to avoid Fort Adams because I hate goingdown the narrow streets of Newport with my big boat. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Snaildarter
