Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season
I was the one with the idea of printing t-shirts but the response was not enthusiastic enough for me to get motivated.

Maybe someone else will run with my idea, in which case, I'll buy one.

Perhaps if there is interest we can get a committee together for a post-season mailing of them (trophy shirts?)

Otherwise lets talk about it for next season.

As for the melting rope and lamp. I made that call in the original post and upon looking at the photo, I might have been wrong about the rope failure mode.

Needless to say, I would (as was recently suggested) stay away from polymer rope and go with cotton.

You can be sure it won't melt. As for catching fire, dip it in the drink and lay your worries aside.

I still like day fishing for them.

I "F"-ing killed them during a bright sunny day.

Looking forward to seeing my fellow squiding friends, old and new.

Since this has grown, I would really hope that some etiquette is shown, with respect to, people running over to were the squid are hitting and crowding out the folks that had been patiently awaiting them.

You can catch them everywhere on the bridge, and if someone has been fishing a spot and begins to get lucky, don't be a tentacle/testicle and ruin it, by playing twister with them.

Everyone pitch in for the good time to be had by all.

I hate to be a pain in the ass but, people, clean up after yourselves, and if everyone grabs just one extra thing they find along the way, we will guarantee the city of Newport will continue to accommodate us.

As for my other theory; the trees are in full bloom aren't they?

Remember it next year.

If I wasn't busy moving I'd be there right now.

Cheers!

That would be pretty cool. I wonder if anyone else is interested in pitching in? And how many shirts would we have to sell to break even?

It's a really awesome idea - trophy shirts.
NP. I think I'm gonna go buy a Coleman and head back again tonight, give it another shot... I don't have to head out for work for a couple days <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> .

BTW, I just read the story about the melting rope on the Coleman- any suggestions on a good rope to get that won't melt through? Thanks.
Ive used clothes line rope plenty of times and never had a problem,I also put a piece of alumin or a tin pie plate on top of the lantern to help reflect the light down ,also reflects heat

Hey Fluffy....

I found this site to give you an idea of the cost.

Obviously the higher the quality the shirt and the more colors the more expensive, while getting 300 people in on it substantially lowers the cost of the printing side of things.

There are probably cheaper sites or those with faster turn around times, but like I said, without a couple dozen committed check writers, I was not out to take the risk as it is more about fun than profit for me.

I think it'll be a week or so before we see any real numbers come through. Keep in mind the heradboats run for two weeks starting May 1

Yep, no squid today. There was rumored that 2 squid were caught on bridge but did not see them <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

just got back from goat island. nothing. no squid sightings. there were a good amount of people out but didnt see anyone catch anything. bummer. cant be too much longer though!
I'll be down Tuesday night. I can't wait! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />
GI dry tonight- fished from 2300-0100 with a bunch of friends and caught nothing. Lot of bait in the water however, and I talked to one man who had caught a single squid. Water temp was at 48.6 last time I checked the buoy, guess we'll have to wait a little while.

Getting impatient, tho...
I too heard about the guy who caught 1 squid, the hero of the night. I was there from about 8pm-midnight and didn't get a bite. There were quite a few people there early on, even someone with a generator, but the same story all around. I'll try back on Thursday. It shouldn't be too much longer now...
Hey all! New to the site....got a season of squid fishing under my belt and it is sweet haha. I go to Salve Regina and i am staying up here for the summer this year. I'm from florida and new jersey we only get squid offshore. I'm definately looking for some fishing buddies. My name is jeff and my email is jeffrey.cornelisse@salve.edu aside from the squiddies does Rhode Island get a winter flounder bite at all? if so where can i go to hook into some. i haven't caught a blackback in like 8 years and i got a craving. anyways...i'll most likely be down at GI like every night haha i wear a tan adidas hat and plain grey sweatshirt (lucky combo) if you see it say hi! also if anyone has a boat and they want to take me out for some fat stripers this summer i'll help pay for gas and i'll bring beer!

hope to hear from y'all
