My friend is a commercial fisherman. He'll give me the scoop as to when they start coming up from the deeper water to spawn. Last year I believe the last week of April they started migrating. Water temp. is a huge factor though.

On the menu: Stuffed squid.

Hi Everyone!

I'm a 2nd year squidfisher from Boston. We used a few cheap jigs last year and had decent success with some, and no success with others. I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything to make my 2nd squid season more productive. Fishing down in Newport, Pink jigs seemed to work the best for me. If anybody knows any good tackle shops in the Boston or Newport area, and any good brand name jigs, your help would be greatly appreciated. I want to stock up soon in anticipation for the first trip! Thanks!

Welcome! I recommend Yo Zuri Brand squid jigs as they work the best. I usually never buy my squid jigs locally from tackle shops because they charge much more than what I would find online. I am too from Boston and plan to be down in Newport when the squid season swings in gear!

Mr. Boston, please support your local bait shop ... buy stuff from them as much as you could, cost may be 2 or 3 dollars more, but please support them <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Less and less local bait shop nowaday.

Somerville Squidman, as mr.boston said, try Yo-zuri brand and welcome to the forum. Gear up and ready for spring runs ...

When at Goat Island and say 'Hi' to all of us.

John+Suzy: You guys ever try cooking squid with beer (instead of water) and eat them while you fish for more squid? You can't experiences that anywhere else like it. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />

Can't wait to <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishing.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> ....

although I'm new to the site , I love squid fishing and have fished newport and stonington CT and usually fish alone because none of my friends like to be up all night standing on the middle of a bridge packed in like a sardine .So would be great to have some company out there. I also have to make the trip from medford ,ma so if anyone from the area is interested in carpooling let me know

Hey welcome, I defitnely know how you feel about your friends not understanding squid fishing.. I usually go make the Hour drive from Boston myself when the squid run. The only problem about me car pooling is I make my own hours working so I usually would stay there till dawn or whenever the action dies down dramtically.. I wouldnt want to keep anyone in RI while I try to get my bucket worth if they have to be home for work. But if anyone from the Boston area wants to ride with me and can stay at the bridge till dawn,Ill be more than happy for you to ride with me.

i just want to ad that I also have a 23 maritime skif that i trailer everywhere and would be willing to fish out of the boat if anyones has any experience with squid fishing from a small boat.

Mr. Boston

Ned maybe we should look into Squidfish night on the boat like we do at CTF.

Don't think they would allow a deep fryer on board though. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Nice to meet you bimin twist

Mr. Boston and I actually want to thanks tym1 for letting us know about Boston Squid Fishing. I actually have doubt when tym1 told us about it.

I asked around local people (near the pier), they mention that in the past 3 yr, they actually see squids around, but no one actually squid for it. So my plan is May in Goat Island and June in Boston. As a matter of fact, I still catch squid until September in Boston Harbor, but not as crazy as in early May in New Port. Thanks tym1 (Kevin!)

How big is your boat ?
