Special Trip

Saturday May 17, 2008

4:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Are you planning to go on this trip ? what are they target that day ?
Hi any body know what kind of bait to use for fluke?
cut squids into long strips: shinners work great: you could also use sand eel.
if looking for poggies head on up to india point park, fluke all over the place along with some nice sea flea infected big bass unreal
I stopped by Indian Point Park last night. Didnt see any Pogeys during the incoming tide. Then I dropped by the small bridge in Warwick and they were snagging them like mad. One guy said someone landed about a 15 pounder earlier that evening. I think Im ready to make the switch to bigger game.

If all else failed, and you don't mind getting your hands dirty, fluke bellies also work great.

Checked things out last night at midnight at GI Causeway...AT Grimaldi had great generator and lights...you could see the squid but they are easily spooked, not aggressive at all. This morning I put in an hour and a half and had 2 on but lost both...I suck. Saw about a half dozen come over the railing this morning among a dozen and a half squidders...not good. There is always this weekend.
does anyone know how to catch pogies?

and what's the setup for fluke... i would like to know... if you bait your hook with squid... how do you keep stripers and blues from snatching the line?
Hello All,

Last night my buddy and I caught 2 squid @ FW, we tried FG but not luck. We meet a guy that said he caught about 40 squid @ GI around 11:00 PM- 2:30 AM. What is going on this season? This is my first year and i am very disappointed. Should I even try my luck again. I seen a ton of school bass at FG, does this mean the season is already over?
fox, check out their pictures.. they got that last week..

Ill b on saturady.
Looking to head out sometime this wknd. Maybe 2/3 nights. Gotta try out some new jigs <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Be back with a report later on...

Good luck all. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
we saw hundreds of baby squid smaller than our jigs. There was one school of larger squid that came by quickly and we managed to get 4 or 5. It appears there are 3 generatoins of squid inhabiting the bay. Getting them to bite has proved a bit difficult this year. I had a dozen hit and misses last night.
Hey john, try SLIGHTLY twitching the rod if theyre finicky...while reeling in slowwwwwly. This worked for me last wknd. But who knows..might have to try another technique next time.
Was there Wednesday 7am till 2pm, I caught one baby squid and I threw it back. Soon as I got there today, there was a guy in the middle of the bridge that caught about 8 pogies. I think they were pogies, they were sliver and about 8-10inchs long.
who's going up this weekend? Looks like the weatherman's original predictions were wrong once again. I see sunshine in the forecast!

I have to pass on squidding...we've been busy hammering door-mats, cows, and togs down at the ditch...I've never seen so many in the XXL size. Gotta get them all on Saturday because wife is dragging me to see Beckett pitch on Sunday and then BBQ with her family Sunday afternoon.

You don't sound too excited about seeing Beckett pitch. If you really don't wanna go, i'll gladly take your place :-)

I think I could deal with a Sunday afternoon BBQ too lol

As for the weekend squidding/fishing, they keep changing the weather report. Now i'm hearing sun during the day on Saturday, and showers starting up again Saturday night. New England weather is basically a coin toss day to day. I have a feeling i'll be standing out in the rain on the bridge on Saturday night.
