I was also there Sunday night. Fished with a freind from 11pm~4am Best night soo far. My friend and I managed to fill about bucket over 5 hours. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='  ' /> It seemed like around the time everyone was leaving and no one was catching on the a bridge a pretty large school came by the park-wall area. The school stayed around for about 2 hours due to mainly having the only bright lights left on the bridge.
Although picky the numbers were thick enough to snag quite a few. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' /> They started off hitting pink and then green. One gentleman had a smaller sytle jig and was pulling them up like crazy. The down-side, it was bitter cold and windy. Probably the reason most left early. At the end of the night we had our catch, we could have caught more if my Genny didnt run out of gas <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> . By the time I filled it and turned the lights back on the school had left. Stayed around an hour after that with no sign of squid.
For how this years been shaping up I consider this a decent night. Have heard of productive reports out of Jamestown as well. Anyone fish late on Monday with similar results?

was there on sunday even with some nice lights we did poorly,i saw poggis in the upper river in providence on sunday morn, i am sure the bass are due .our crew of three have only done well once this year ,85 squid.funny thing even with the trash cans around pigs still refuse to use them what gives

the name its a fa fa fa fish comes from a penquin plunge one year with carolin fox( remember her) my friend who goes by the name of captain naked was there and he is 6ft 2 in around 240 and was wearing a thong and a teeny derby hat ,and a tiny necktie, needless to say he stood out in the crowd,he also had his dog with him a st bernard,miss fox asked who he was here representing, and he said the (tautogs from attleboro)miss fox asked what the hell a ta ta tautog was, and my friend answered ITS A FA FA FA FISH

I hear ya tatonka...there were some very finicky squid. I tried all my jigs & finally found 2 that consistently worked. We left around 1230 am & they were still catching. If I didnt have work mon. I'd stay longer...

i just found this article in the sunday projo... very interesting... i never knew we needed a saltwarter fishing permit... question though... has anyone ever been to stop & shop or shaws and found stripers in the seafood section?? is the striper population in trouble or something??

Beginning next January, everyone fishing for striped bass, shad or sea-run trout will have to register with the federal government unless the angler already has a state-issued saltwater-fishing permit. The fine for not having a federal or state permit could run into the thousands of dollars.
None of the New England states offers a saltwater-fishing license, although Connecticutâs General Assembly is working on one.
Until 2011, federal permits will be free. They will be available online or by calling a toll-free phone number to be announced.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is creating a national registry of anglers and charter boats who fish in federal waters, outside the three-mile limit. The registry also will list anglers who fish inside the three-mile limit for anadromous fish â like striped bass, shad, sea-run trout and others â that are born in freshwater, then go to sea. They return to freshwater to spawn.
The registry, like a national phone book, will allow researchers to call fishermen to keep track of what they are catching. A new version of the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the federal law that controls saltwater fishing, requires the registry.
The fishing registry is similar to the federal Harvest Information Program that requires migratory-bird hunters to obtain an annual HIP card so the federal government can keep track of what the hunters are shooting. When a hunter buys a hunting license he or she provides an address, phone number and the answers to some simple questions about what was shot the previous season. The HIP permit is free.
Rhode Island has no plans to issue a similar permit that would conform to federal fishing regulations, according to Stephanie Powell, a spokeswoman for the Department of Environmental Management. âWe have talked with the feds, and have just begun to discuss this here,â she said. âWe will be considering over the next year or so whether there is a viable alternative for the state or whether to have anglers just register with the feds. We have some time to deliberate.â
The Coast Guard and state law-enforcement officials along the coast will begin checking striper fishermen for saltwater-fishing permits next year, said Gordon Colvin, the NOAA official in charge of implementing the new program.
âWith anglers, all weâre looking for is their name, address and telephone number so that we can call them and conduct telephone-based surveys,â he said.
Fishing regulators are supposed to make decisions about fishing seasons, areas and limits based on sound information. When Congress rewrote the Magnuson-Stevens Act to guide regulators, lawmakers demanded that recreational fishermen provide the same kind of information that commercial fishermen do.
Because commercial fishermen must buy licenses, itâs easier to keep track of them. To keep track of what recreational fishermen are catching, the government hires pollsters to intercept anglers at marinas and fishing piers to question them about their catch. NOAA also conducts random telephone interviews in coastal communities to question residents about fishing.
At least one Rhode Island marina does not allow pollsters on its docks. And the telephone surveys miss anglers who live inland, but fish the coast.
The new system, Colvin said, will give regulators direct access to anglers.
If an anglerâs state does not offer some kind of fishing permit to gather names, addresses and phone numbers, the federal government will.
In 2011, the NOAA will start collecting a fee â probably around $25 â for its registry, Colvin said.
To meet federal requirements, and generate some additional revenue, some states are crafting saltwater fishing licenses; they include Connecticut, New York and New Hampshire.

Thanks for the Provo article. I've heard about Saltwater licenses for a few years but I always thought it was the states pushing it. Figures that the Feds would get involved too. Hopefully, we'll get something for our License fees!?
About the Stripers, yes they are in trouble and RI & MA are two of the states which are not supporting their protection. I encourage anyone who loves Stripers to go to www.stripersforever.com and join it. It costs nothing to join, takes very little time to join and may save the Striper for all of us to enjoy.

wife just let me know that I spend over 400 bucks in gas last month... ouch!

Good god! $400 on gas in a month! Those squid are running you about $100/lb huh? Better than the $150/lb i'm averaging.
About those saltwater permits, i don't believe we are required to have them this year. Also if you think you'll ever see any of that money going to fisheries in Rhodie, think again. Being the crooked/corrupt state that it is, that money will go into the state fund

If you end up going friday, let me know and maybe we can all meet up. My plans are up in the air b/c I think i finally found the car I've been searching for. That being the case, I might have to make a trip to my old stomping grounds (queens, NY) to trade in my Ridgeline and pick up an STi.

i have no problem with a saltwater fishing license, only if the monies collected went right back into fisheries instead of the general fund

I'm thinkin fri night for me. I'm going to try the wall this trip. Hopefully, I can get close enough to unload a genny. I've got this honda that runs quiet, but is too heavy for one person to unload. Maybe I can park close and leave it in the pickup and just run extentions. I believe there is 3 or 4 outlets on it.

Tony, Did she catch the C note you dropped on lures in the front seat while she was studying? All in all, as vises go, fishing may be expensive but it's otherwise benign. You could tell her that you know a guy that drops $400 in a night at the strip club right down the street.
We'll be boat fishing soon so don't make any promises about curtailing your gas expenditure.

I went Wed am from 7:30 to 11: 30 without a bite. About 50 on the bridge and I did not see more than 2-3 caught and nothing much in the buckets.

Four of us took the boat up to Pt. Judith yesterday for fluking. I brought a rod rigged with squid jigs in case they started pulling on our fluke baits but it never happened. We managed to get 9 keeper fluke (20+ inches) and one nice blackfish that hit a fluke bate (squid and shiner sandwich). The stomachs of the fluke were loaded with squid. Some commercial rod and reel friends of mine all had their 100 lb limit. Most fish were caught in less than 40 feet of water. There weren't too many shorts for us but enough action to keep things interesting.
On the way into the boat ramp we stopped at Champlain's fish market who buy squid from the local draggers. We tied up at their dock and bought some freshly caught squid (40 lbs). The smaller tubes were $1.50 per lb and the larger ones $2.50 per lb. I suspect that the price reflects buying in quantity. I didn't see what they were charging in the retail market when you only buy a few lbs.
If the squid run kicks in we will try a day fluke/night squid trip. Otherwise its fluke and sea bass for me.
