What, only 1 star fish? There are millions of them hanging on the wall there, you should fill up your bucket with them..... Sorry to hear that, Saturday weather was misearble, I packed my gear Friday midnight, drove around bridge to see how's everyone doing, parked my car and started sleeping, then heard the drizzle started . Woke up at 4am and it's still drizzling and I said to myself I'm going home.

Went out last night started at about 20:00 thinking to stay 2-3 hours. However, after a group of Laotian guys next to me started catching I was sure I was in the right spot. Finally threw in the towel at 3:00 this AM with 2 squid in my bucket (yep 7 hours). The nice Laotian guys had 3 buckets between 4 of them⦠These guys where a team! Bass Masters, NASCAR pit crews, Tour De France teams got nothing on these guys. Can't imagine what these guys get when the squid are actually running!
was this on the bridge? What were they doing differently that they had such success? That is, what were they throwing? Standard yozuris? Was there anything peculiar to you about the way they fished? Just wanna get the best idea of what's working for tomorrow/wed.

My brother and I were on the GI bridge last night from 19:00-23:00.
We got a just under a dozen between us. There was a woman w/a generator on the wood bridge w/about half a bucket that was going pretty steady all night. Most people seemed to be where we were in terms of their buckets. They were there last night, just not running very thick. Found out we were on the wrong side of the bridge from a local cop. We were getting most of our hits on the pink lures. Good night overall. Thanks for all the posts -- It was great to go squiding again for the first time in yrs. Think we may be hooked

It's in their DNA. It can't be explained. You can trade your pole/gear and spot with them and they will still slay them.

Hey folks,
New blogger here...great site! I was on the bridge last night from about 8pm-11pm with a buddy and we only got two squid to show for it before we decided to give up! There were guys catching squid, but it was spotty. We used pink and blue rigs and the results were the same. I picked up this submersible light that you tie right onto your line, has anyone used one before? What's the word on these? I am not sure what the deal is, my buddy figures its the water tempeture that keeping the squid masses away. Anyone have any insight here?

well i'm laotian and news fly quickly amongst the community... i'll let you guys know if i hear anything... btw... we like to let our jigs sink to the very bottom... try using a #2 ounce sinker... my technique... use about a 7-10 second count between each jig up and down...

Me and Becca fished Saturday from like 8-12 or so. We managed 14 squid total. She had 8 before I even got one! My line snapped and I lost two jigs! I was getting very angry, until finally I managed to start catching! We were in the boat alongside the highway bridge, lined up with all the other boats. The boat next to us was abolutely BAILING the squid, they had one every 15 seconds! I couldn't get any??? Not really sure what was going on. I did not have bright white lights, only my submersible green one. They had 4 bright lights over the side. Not sure if that is why they were doing so well, but it is the only difference I could see in their technique...
We decided to move, which was a good idea. Got the boat in about 25' of water, away from all other boats. There was no one fishing where we were. This is when we started doing well. Maybe the other lights were overpowering what little light I had??? Anyway, great time. We left the squid biting, as it started to rain pretty good and was getting late for the long drive back to CT with the boat in tow...

Stripey,
What was the final tally for the two of you?

What was the final tally for the two of you?
Final tally was 14. They are definitely here. .You should have seen how bad the boat next to me was bailing them. I was getting very frustrated! I may set up some type of generator/lighting on my boat. I figured the green underwater light would suffice, but maybe I need some flood lights!

man o man i can't wait to get up there tomorrow

Stripey, I told becca to tell you to get a deep cycle battery, then go to sears and pick up a flood light rack. Last time I was in there, they had them on clearance for $19.99. That won't take up too much room on board and should have a solid light output for ya w/o breaking the bank

has anyone ever tried using something like this instead of a generator?

Sounds like a good idea. I had an extra battery on the boat I brought for the submersible. I'll just need to get the rack. Do you think that is what I was lacking? I certainly did much better once I moved away from everyone. How are you hooking the flood lights up to the DC power source? Do I need a converter?

A deep cycle battery will outlast a starter battery by 10 fold. But, I've been wrong before... i think... so.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

in the words of homer j. simpson......I .....don't ......know. But now i'm on a mission to find out. Time to run to walmart and spend more money on fishing stuff I don't need. Oh well.
