Squid: The other other OTHER white meat
I was at GI today from 12-4. Caught 3 in the first half hour but my lined snapped after fighting with a bluefish for 5 minutes. After that bluefish took my jig, no one was catching any squid. I guess the blue scared them off. Also I had no luck near the park only on the hotel side of the bridge. It was just about 4 other people when I got there. Then around 2pm about 10 more people came.

That thing is insane! Prices all the way to $350 & then you need a genny to run it off of too. Problem with that is the initial cost...especially if it turns out the thing really doesn't work that well. On the other hand, it would be worth the investment if it worked really well and lasted you a long time.

It was very nice meeting you as well. Hopefully, you can make it back to Newport once the squid arrive in earnest! I made it to my car just in time before the heavy rain...I'm surprised you stayed out there! Hope you enjoyed your stay in Newport and I hope your beautiful wife did not spend all your money shopping in town!!!

Hi Skane,

I really wanted to get back to my car but my wife drove my car to buy a cup of coffee....there was no choice for me other than standing in the down pour.

I may come back on Friday next week.

What part of the bridge where you fishing? It could be a fluke? I've got four outlets on the generator. If their not being used and the generator is running anyway, fine, the more light the better

the water is still too cold for Blues?? I would guess that it was a schoolie striper. I've had them hit squid jigs in the past.
It seems like every squid season there is a fair amount of fluke and schoolies caught at GI. Last year there channel 6 news or one of the news stations was filming one of their guys squidding, and he caught a nice size fluke. It could of been any fish I suppose. Hopefully the change in barometric pressure tonight is going to spur a squid frenzy
poagies are already in the upper bay and 30+ inch are being caught...but not by me...I am focused on the elusive squid!!!

Not to start a bluefish battle on here; however, last year I decided to cast out a line at a beach in newport. A guy came up to me, and said what are you pluggin for. I told him I was craving a bluefish. He laughed, and said that he has lived here for 25 years and never has seen a bluefish at this beach before mid june. I didn't care it was a beautiful sunset and calm water. So I kept pluggin, until I landed a bluefish about 20mins after the guy left. Her was sitting in his car as a walked by to go cook my bluefish.

So long story short. There is no such thing as to early for a bluefish. Only side not is this blue I caught was in the middle of May. So it may be a little early <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />. I just like that story. LOL

Back to the Forum. Where are the schools of squid with fifty buckets full.
Nothing in Onset tonite. Set up from 8:45 - 10. bait abll, small fish on the bait ball eating the bait ball, jelly fish and one fellow squidnet 'r , hey rudy. No squid. Spawnle, I think I may come to GI tomorrow unless someone invites me to somewhere on the cape <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> I left the generator and lites in the car tonite, so I'm going somewhere unless its another monsoon.

Portuguesse Man`O`War, Anyone see the 5 o`clock news spot tonight about them being seen in Newport already this week. That seems early. I didn't think they came in until august. I was wondering if those big jellies at GI today may have been a Man`oWar

yeah i'm going to try my best to make it up there this weekend... depending on the weather... i'm keeping my eyes on channel 12 news... they're more optimistic than channel 10... if i go i'll be the guy with the yellow rain jacket or black bubble jacket.

Hey,

I am new to this forum, any information on how to use this program quickly will be appreciated. I did check out Goat Island last Tuesday 04/22/08, seen some small squid but no luck! Has anyone caught any this year?

I would go for it if I lived on the water or close enough. what size bulb did it have? hehe, I have the genny already. My next major question would be...........visibility.....new england water is nothing like tropical waters.
