I went down to GI this afternoon with big Alan, and didn't see anything being caught. We battled the rain with our rain gear. With the rain finally gone one would think that would mean the squid have some catching up to do.

Do you guys put ice on top? I think squid spoil pretty fast in high temperature.

When i'm transporting them, yes. I won't throw ice on usually until i'm done fishing. It's generally pretty damn cold up there during the squid run so there's no real need to ice them until you are ready to leave...or if you plan to store them somewhere overnight.

Interesting report from the frances fleet today





SQUID AND FLUKE AND EVEN SOME SANDEELS ON THE BEACH!!

April 28th



The fluke are definitely on the beach!!. The crew has been able to make a few trips for fluke and the fishing has been quite good considering the water temperature and how early in the season it is. The fluke are here because the squid have arrived and also there have been some sandeels in close to shore as well. Some good size squid were taken on hook baits meant for the fluke! Word is that the squid are in good off of Newport. We are looking forward to the first squid trip on Friday night at 7pm.

I dunno, with all this fresh water pouring out of the bay... a gamble...



Anyone gonna hit the causeway this evening?



I very well may be up for a post-monsoon scouting trip.

Yes, it's strange here in Long Island/Jersey coast that big bluefish (8-10 lb) already show up.



Saw small school of sandeel swim around under generator-powered light last weekend.

That's not a good sign. If the stripers and blues show up this early, then this will be one short squid run

I just found a bunch of fishing pics including this one from 06. We managed 299 squid off the bridge btwn 3 of us. That was the first all nighter I pulled on the bridge. If you notice the date, it was May 5th and if i remember correctly, that was the peak of the spawn. I still considered it the 4th b/c I never went to bed that night <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> The green cooler was full of BIG squid, almost all 15" or better. People were filling buckets left and right that night. I'm thinking by this weekend, we'll be fillin buckets....at least...that's my theory <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

At GI this afternoon from 6-7, 1 squid, saw 2 more caught, windy!!! Also made stops in Jamestown, nothin. Bunch of people sitting in their cars waiting for someone else to be the fool standing on a bridge in the middle of a gale force wind tring to catch a single squid. We're all nuts!!!
