Newport, Ri - 2008 Squid Season

has anyone ever tried chumming with dead bait fish in order to attract the squid??



btw... out of curiosity... what does everyone do for a living? just wanted to get a census of the career backgrounds of everyone here. i'm a computer technician...

Interesting suggestion, never thought of it...but, do let us know if you gave it a shot. As for background...hedge funds management by days, fisherman by nights/weekends/holidays/vacation days/sick days....etc.

What do i do for living?

I'm a chop liver. it pays the bill right....

I know Tatonka a bit so i can speak for him ... He is 6'3 about 220, from the west .... yeap from west.... he can't catch squid over there so he moved to Brovidence



Bottom line, i got my date at GI for 3 weeks a year. Wheter she shows up or not, i still be there.

Anyways, I'm leaving work now and should be there arround 5pm

Hey guys sorry I Been quiet. I was out Wedsnesday and Thursday. Weds. NOTHING. Thursday. The tide was so damn bad. It was low tide like the whole day. It was so bad I anchor for 3 hours out in hyannis harbor. Although I saw a few catch things. I did not catch a single thing. I ran off 80$ gas for the boat. And 50$ for the car. I hope you guys have some luck. But no Big school of squid has come no where near.

I ran by boat a little outside of Newport Harbor with a buddy mid of last week and got three quarter of a bucket. I'm doing it again tonight and tomorrow night.

no money in system admin?? that's my goal... i'm self studying for CCNA right now... yeah we're hiring another support tech though... no money but great benefits! 20 days off!! very laid back too... don't need a 2 week notification for a day off or anything... my boss knows that i love fishing so he expects me to be taking a bunch of days off this month and next for squidding

Oh I'm sure there is money in it. I just have to get the motivation to put my resume together and get out of here. I have gone as far as I can go on the ladder here. Small company.



I will be coming up there tomorrow afternoon, and trying my best for some squid. Probably take the boat up.

I WENT EVERYWHERE!!! I was probably a good 5-7 miles off shore. Drove literally around the whole hyannis harbor. It was so pitiful. I saw people fishing off these walls of rocks and I saw him fish 1 the whole day. I followed the Sea swan.- 1/2 day Fishing. No one on there boat caught anything. It was crazy!

Last night was our first try at squidding. Sounds like we weren't the only ones without luck. See everyone at GI tonight (think we'll stick to the seawall).



Is this drop in temp over the next few days going to discourage the squid?
