What To Do When Snagged

I've lost 3 jigs to snags and don't feel like wasting too many more. Sometimes they'll come loose if caught on weed. Other times I just have to grab the rod, walk backwards and wait till the line snaps.

I feel scared every time I let it sink to the bottom.



I've got the line running to a snap swivel and then just attach and change the jig on the end as I please. Is this the correct setup?

This is a little trick I learned from my dad.. When you get snagged, Do not continue to put pressure or pull on the line. Get the biggest weight/sinker u have and attach it to the main line. Let the sinker slide down on the line towards the snagged lure. Hopefully the weight of the sinker will knock the squid jig loose from whatever its snagged on, since squid jigs dont have barbs on the hooks..I remember seeing some of these unsnagging weights somewhere online before to purchase. Good one ,myself I always use jigs with soft spikes so that they tend to straighten if pulled hard

Mr Boston, this is one of the oldest trick to un-snagged and work 'most' of the time.

Make sure you have 4oz or 5oz weight with you at all time.

How do you attach the sinker to the main line? Do you make a small loop out of a bit of line and tie it on? Or do you cut the line then thread the sinker on? Or something else? Sorry, I can't visualise it. I was also read somewhere you can use a plastic pipe to run down your line with the line inside it. I guess for that it has to fit over your entire rod & reel.

Cut the main line and thread the heavy sinker on,let the sinker drop towards the snagged lure so it dislodges itself. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

BTW I ordered some kamikaze jigs off ebay. Said to be like yo zuris. They look similar, but the jags are smaller. Havn't tried them in the water yet.

What I did was to tie two Surgeon's Loop, one on each end and close to each other, attach the weight (4 to 5 oz) on one then and other end tie to your main line, drop it it down.

But this might be better for attaching a sinker without damaging the line.

This is what i do. I run a lure retriever down to the jig and bounce it up and down. The easiet way to make a retirever is get a a single ring binder about 2inch diameter. Attach a 10ounce or twelve round weight thru loop, slid surgical tube over ring so the bindersnap is covered. Tie cord like material to eye of round weight I prefer something like cotton so jigs will snag on cord or slip thru ring to release the snag as it slide down to next jig.







You normally get one or both jigs back
