Very sexy gear Kevin! Nice catch. I dream about owning a megabass rod one day <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

I assume the 2lb fireline you were using was crystal? I have been using the 3lb crystal for pretty much all my light fishing (estuaries, trout etc), it's the bomb <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

thanks buddy.

the megabass's good but i think i should get an eging rod to do the job. the fullhouse's a HB rod for bream and flattie.

i was using 2lb fireline yes but i will change it to varivas seabass 10lb as soon as i get the line from plat.co.jp.

hey jazman, i am glad to hear the fireline crystal is good stuff. i bought two spools for my WA trip. I got 20lb and 30lb.

from ebay of course <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> though i did notice that the name "crystal" is misleading since it is pure "white" and not "transparent" like I had thought.

You will enjoy the crystal I am sure Glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' /> As far as I know braided/thermal fused line (like fireline) cannot be clear because of the material it's made from. Although they advertise the crystal as clear, translucent and other such descriptions, it just looks white to me. I use a metre or two of fluorocarbon leader for a more invisible 'business end' of my line.

hi jazman, is the double uni knot what you use to tie the braid to the mono? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' />

i would prefer to do a double blood knot but apparently it will slip.

cheers, glen

Yes, the double uni knot is the only one I ever use to join brain to mono or fluorocarbon leader, and I have never had one fail me. And compared to some of the other braid-leader knots I've tried it is dead easy. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':zorro:' /> I use at least 8 turns on the braid knot and 5-6 on the leader knot. I use all different lengths of leaders depending on what I'm doing, really short (40-50cm) for small surface lures in the estuaries, 1-2m for trolling and up to 5m for surf/rock fishing. Some people like to use at least 2m of leader so that when they've got most of the braid back onto the reel and they're about to try and land the fish, they will have a few turns of leader material onto the reel, so the knot is not directly under pressure during the tense last few moments of a fight.

Aargh, the wife has her own complete kit. But every time there is finally a suitable night, circumstances beyond our control prevent us from going.
