yesterday i went squid fishingn, i've found some spot where i can fish just at a few centimeters away from the squids (a floating platform inside a port), there were literally HUNDREDS of squids around, but they wouldn't get close to the jigs. I was only able to catch 5 squids. I realized that they were changing their skin color very fast, like a disco light, blinking, they would get close to the jig but they wouldnt even try to catch ant eat it, they just went away.
Why did they change colour intermitently so fast? What does this mean, does this have to do with the fact that they didn't want to "eat"?? (at least my jigs, i tried all colors possible).

is there always heaps of squid in that spot? i guess the colour changing could be because of some spawning ritual? some squid also change colour when they are scared or when hunting.

Hi glen, thank you for the answer, yes there are always squids in that spot, sometimes more, sometimes less, but i never saw them like this time changin colour so fast. I noticed there were some big fishes around so they probably were afraid of them?

squid often do the flashing when they are angry and may have been concentrating on something else so they would pay less attention to the jig so you would probably catch if they were calm they may have felt threatened by the larger fish and may use the flashing as a deterant to them.
