Squid Rods.

long time havent been on here. Ive been using dedicated squid rods. Does anyone else use similar rods and what are your thoughts on them??

I don't think I've ever seen anybody on Squidfish mention that they use dedicated squidding rods in Oz. I would love to buy one but I spend too much on bream gear already.



Something I would be interested to know is what special action the 'squidding' rods have, compared to a rod you might throw small HBs or SPs with. I would guess they have a lot of flex to absorb the pumping of a hooked squid?

Not in Oz but I use a dedicated squid rod. A Daiwa InFeet XTreme EG83M.



Actually, they are quite stiff to give a sharp dart to the jig. Alot of them are very light, though there is some debate as to which is better. Some say a light rod allows you to jerk all day without tiring while others say the weight of a heavy rod has more momentum and needs less energy to jerk. I guess there is less shock to the body with a heavy rod too.



Before I got this one I used a ¥4,000 (NZ$55) one. I haven't used many rods so I can't really explain the difference but the ¥18,000 (NZ$220) Daiwa catches a lot more squid.

Do you have a special jig holder on the rod as well? Looks interesting.

The reel is a Kaldia KIX 2506w. It has a shallow spool and double handle so it doesn't reel by itself. Handle length is no problem because you don't need so much power with squid and the shortness makes it easy to flick around.



The holder is held on with a rubber ring and is convenient for securing your jig during quick moves. Cost about $3 from memory. I only have it on my squid rod as I just use the guides for hooked lures.



   



The jig is a 2.5 so I guess that means everything is even smaller <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

Thanks for the close up photo. That seems like a great idea. I never saw such a product. Very few people do much DIY in Japan. Those who do, do so to a very high standard.



Of course a rod with a built in one would be better but we don't all have that much money <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Though apparently the new Shimano rods have them.

yeh I figured not many ppl have caught with proper squid gear. Squid jigs are one thing but to actually work them with the proper tool is another. Yeh Jazman, as Egi-zed an Egi rod is usually quite stiff in the tip but slower action than a regular rod. The rods are usually quite long as well to aid in casting, atleast 7'6" and most use low rider guides and run very very small guides to suit 2000-4000 size reels.

GLADIATOR have just brought out a sweet range of Squid Rods, Egi Equip series. The one I saw was 7'01" but the shop assistant said there were two others in the range around 8' and 9'. Excellent bit of gear. Hope this helps.

Its been a windy couple of weeks here. Hard work with the squid tho I dont seem to have a problem getting tiny little cuttles. Finally got a reasonable one today weighing in at just under 1kg.

Ive been using KS'LABO Vacance. Soon I'll be importing and distributing fishing gear from Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan. Ive managed to get hold of Etouh range of Egi rods. Have anyone here used their rods and what they think of them.

Thats good. What sort of prices are they in and what line class and jig size is the 7'10"??
