Squidding In Wellington?!?
#1
Hello I'm new to the site. I've been interested in squid fishing in ages and recently I have bought 2 2' squid jigs. I have no idea how to use them and where. So please if you live in Wellington can u please tell me where I can go squid fishing? And people who don't live in Wellington could you please give me some general hints as to how to go squid fishing? Thanks!

Hi welly squid. I grew up in Palmy and never tried squiding till I moved to Japan. I would say Wellington would be a good place to fish though the season might be short. Generally you want water temps of at least 16 degrees. The best spots would be those with rocks and weed in close proximity. Other places include jetties with lights or even beaches. Beaches are a lottery though when you hit the jackpot, you really do.

Spring squid are coming in to breed so try to find places they would like to breed, which is generally in weed. They like to ambush prey from the cover of rocks too and tend to follow channels. These are only rough ideas but should give you somewhere to start from.

Good luck
