Squids will be in when the baitfishes are in. Â Same with any other fish. Â Sometimes early, sometimes late, it changes every year. Â Best to get out there and fish regardless, and then report to us screen watchers. Â
Sometimes the reports are late, or not reported. Â So screen watchers gets second dibs. Â Regardless, there are many fishes out there. Â And thank you to all who have reported/contributed. Â

The squid usually come in sometime around late-April/mid-May and are here until sometime late-October/mid-November. The biggest push of bigger squid into the area usually happens in the May/June runs. After that, the blues show up and make the pods scatter a bit. The Fall run can be big too, but the squid are often smaller.

Thanks Bill. We are planning a trip in mid-May. Long way for us: about 500 miles.

Hey guys! How's everyone doing? Can someone please refresh my memory on what the ideal water temperature must be for calamari fishing? I thought it was supposed to be somewhere around 56F ... also, does anyone know what the current temp is? I plan on coming up in a couple of weekends. Many thanks in advance!
May 10th last year and the water was 55° in newport. May 9th the year before and the water temp was 55 in newport before I started getting consistent action.
How's everyone doing? I heard squid was caught at nut island in Quincy, ma don't know how true it was but I'm planing to try in the next couple of weeks down in RI has anyone else heard anything?
URI has a group that conducts bottom trawls every week counting fishes. I just got word from the deckhand that they caught five squid near Fox Island today. Get your jigs ready!
There are squid in Nantucket Sound according to Jim at Eastman's Sport and Tackle who reported two men jigged up a load of big squid which was a well-documented catch.
Quote:I was out at Goat Island last night. There were a handful of guys catching some squid! Not very often, but there were certainly some squid there!
Was this land based or in a boat?
