that is true if the ratio of ink to water is low....
i know this from catching small squid and putting them on my kayak in a shallow puddle on the deck. they will ink up and then die in a matter of 3-5 minutes. Cheers Blue W. Hunter.

Thanks Blue W. Hunter. I was thinking of keeping 3 or 4 alive and use them for bait with the yellow fin or finicky mahi. I guess the up side is if they don't survive the live well we'll just eat em'.

I use two tanks with water. First one i use to squids eject ink. After this i put them in the other tank equipped with water pump. Pump change water every 15 minutes. In this second tank squids can survive about 24 hours.
Here is picture of squids in second tank : Other simpliest method is to use line with few hooks :

Zex, that is awesome! Thanks for your help, that will save me time later. Do you also use the squid in the live well for baiting bigger fish? How do you rig them?

Jay
Hi Jay! Yes, i use squid like live bait. Some pitures of my and my friends catches you can see at this forum here : http://www.squidfish.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=2002 Here is picture of my old tank for live bait. Inside are needle fishes, i use it for live bait too. On the left side you can see tube, pump is on the other side and undewater. At the top are small holes. This big one i was block up later, needles go out thru this big one so i make lot of small holes at same level. This is last big catch of my friend Ivo, live squid as bait, 22 kg kingfish. Here you have small film how to rig the squid : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sOJT8ec-so Zex.

Great thread!!
I just saw a live well in a Stabicraft were they kept live squid. Great idea for the Kingfish that have started to be more prevalent in Victorian waters The Stabicraft Live Well has a glass window at the front, so you can see you catch swimming about with the lid on.

Nice!
In this moment i make one tank with two one-way valves and without electric pump. I will put the pictures for a few weeks.
